The Skies of Pern isn't bad, and is a one-off Disaster Movie Type book that forwards F'lessan's and the Dolphin's stories. It's not bad to read. And Golanth is lovely.
Dolphins of Pern is a side-story, unsurprisingly about the Dolphins. With a bit of Golanth too.
Basically, anything written solely by Anne is fine...
I've just been re-reading them - they remain light-hearted and engaging, so it's really sad to hear how much they went downhill. And some of her others - Ship Who Sang, Restoree, and many others are truly excellent
I recently re-read the whole Ship series and the Treaty Planet ones, and when I'm next in Norwich I may just come home with every Anne McCaffrey book on the bookshelves. Including Restoree, the Crystal Singer books and Powerlines, plus the Acorna books that I haven't touched yet, and the ones about the planet with the force field around it.
