They definitely can't be measured. At all. Neither can "good" or "bad" things. I don't even think they cancel each other out, they're just both there.

mmm, yes. I agree, but I also think that, in general, the good parts are more important than the bad. Or rather, the fact of the good parts is more important.
....Man, that's really unclear. I have no idea how else to put it, though.

The objective in life is to be happy. That's all anyone ever does, they try to be happy. Happiness and sadness (or other negative emotions) can coexist, and be found in each other. And sadness and pain are nice to have on occasion.
