Title: There is the 'Me', There is the 'You'
Pairing: Katori Shingo/Mizuki Arisa
Note: Instant fic lols. I just want to write something badly. Might become a multi-chapter.
The cheers were deafening and everyone’s smile was so bright, but he still scanned the audience to look for that one person’s face, the smile he had been wanting to see for days. His heart stopped a beat and he felt himself smiling too when he finally saw her beaming widely at him. The glow in her eyes showed how she was enjoying herself to the fullest and it made him happy.
“Do you think kids like us will last in this industry?”
Shingo looks at Arisa curiously as they sit together on the side of the road near the filming site where the other older kids are having their own bonding moment.
“I don’t know, maybe.” He looks up again at the starless sky. “But I hope we will stay friends.”
He glances at her and he can see her smiling gently.
He does not forget that smile for days.
They grew up ‘together’ in this industry. They even chose not to continue with their studies in high school to focus on this job. They did their best to be able to survive in this field and survive they did, but both of them knew they suffered in the process too. They met and co-starred again, no longer kids though, and as lovers, this time after so many years.
It is night and they are sitting on the chairs provided for them during filming breaks.
“I think I’m in love with you.”
It is just a whisper, but its impact to his heart deafens him.
She laughs lowly. “The look on your face, I’m just kidding.”
He doesn’t know if he shall be disappointed or what. He isn’t able to sleep that night.
It had been what, 25 years since they knew each other? A very long time for sure. He knew a lot about her during that time they co-starred again. They didn’t see each other that much after that. They didn’t even contact each other, but every time they saw each other after so many months or years, it’s like nothing has changed.
“Yo, Shingo!”
He looks up from the celery he is inspecting in a lower rack, then he beams when he sees Arisa. “Yo, what are you doing here?”
“Grocery shopping, obviously.” She laughs.
He feels that familiar feeling in his chest again whenever he sees her smile or laugh before.
They had this connection that nobody in their lives was able to duplicate. His life was very different with SMAP. Maybe because of this distinct connection he couldn’t stop feeling things for her. Feelings that were so complicated, feelings that grew fiercely as moments passed by.
“You are seeing someone right now?”
She plays with the rim of her glass before smiling serenely. “Yes.”
“Does he make you happy?
“Yes.” again, that serene smile.
He wants to ask if she really loves him, but he stops himself. “I’m happy for you.”
But he knows that is a lie. The emotion that is burning inside him that time was unexplainable and it was not happiness for her but sadness and frustration for him.
“Thank you.” She smiles again and that’s the first time he gets hurt by her smile.
He raised his hand and waved happily at her. Her smile grew wider. She was here with him and he‘s happy even though they were together yet apart, she’s here to support him and SMAP and that’s what mattered.
Even though he had been stopping himself from shouting how much he loved her in this whole place.
