A Memorable 2010

Dec 31, 2010 22:14

It's New Year's Eve once again. How fast time flies. It feels like it was just yesterday when I was writing my "Memories of 2009" entry, and now here I am writing another post to end my year.

2010 really did go by as fast as a bullet, and that was because of the many happenings that took place this year.

Last year wasn't a very good one as far as my university life was concerned, but this year, I made it a point to at least make a move to jump back and make my life at uni better. I tried being patient and changing how I view things, and thankfully my efforts paid off. It was a struggle, but my 1st year in uni ended well. Both my academic and social lives improved by the end of the school year. I got rid of my annoyed attitude, and even when it seemed like my GWA would take another plunge because of two difficult subjects, it turned out to be the other way around. I was able to pull myself together, did my best and ended up having decent grades in both subjects, pulling my GWA a little above the 2.00-level :D

Aside from that, I also had a blast with all our high school visits, especially the ones at the beginning of the year because it felt so refreshing to go back to my high school in the midst of the toxic period. We first visited during the Sports Fest, then during the Post-Valentines Concert, and even though the school seems different now, it was fun to reminisce moments from high school with our teachers :>

Adding to the fun of the year 2010 was my fun 17th birthday. I wasn't expecting it to be fun, what with the academic (and a bit of social) difficulties I was experiencing at the time, but I guess that's the way things are sometimes. They're much more fun when you don't expect them to be. That day was a Tuesday, and I had Anthro class in the morning which I skipped (it's all just reporting on that day anyway) so that I can have a little more sleep. I arrived late for Comm II class, but it was all good because my teacher was in a good mood, he even joked around and greeted me. Also, I had an exam on Geology on that day, but it was easy, so it was still good! My blockmates all greeted me, too, and I felt happy to receive such warm greetings. I had lunch with a few blockmates, and right after I went to MOA for my solo birthday escapade. Haha. I just wanted to see the concert grounds before Paramore's concert, and well... it's nice to stroll around MOA, even if it's solo ;) Then I got to spend a whimsical evening with my best friends, a nice conclusion to a blissful 17th birthday :D

And then there's summer... It would've been 100% fun, except that we lost a beloved friend during the summer. Well, it was sad, and we'll surely miss him, but I know he's in a much better place now, and I'm sure he's happy wherever he is.

But summer has its fun part, too. On the second week of April, I went on a 5-day trip to the magnificent island of Boracay with my family. It was sooo beautiful~! White sand, blue sea; white clouds, blue sky. Indeed, the place was very picturesque. It was also very nice that I got to stay there for five days, so that the trip wasn't the typical hurried trip; it was like a real vacation where I was able to relax and go around the place leisurely. On the first two days I just lazed around the hotel room and went around while doing some shopping. And then on the succeeding days, it was time for some summer fun! :) Of course there's swimming, frolicking in the beach and writing on the sand. The sand was indeed very fine, and the water was pristine blue. At night, the sky was also a marvelous sight. There were a lot of stars and so I had a lot of fun stargazing while walking along the beach with my siblings. We also got to try the banana boat ride, and snorkeling! :) It was fun to feed the various fishes swimming around that area. The sea is really beautiful. The whole trip was really fun, it was definitely the highlight of my summer~ :)

I'd usually be unwelcoming to the new school year, especially when I really enjoyed the summer, but I sort of had a change of heart this year. I didn't exactly look forward to the new school year, but.. I also didn't feel sulky when the school year started. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the 1st sem of my sophomore year. Both the social and academic aspects of my student life improved dramatically during the 1st sem. Since we got to pick our minor subjects this time around, I basically enjoyed all my subjects except for that one major subject which wasn't particularly interesting. It wasn't difficult though, so it was all good. Not to mention, my schedule was good, too. Because of that, I enjoyed going to school, and the result was that I was able to get good grades in all of my subjects. I was ecstatic when I found out that I'm in the scholars list (not an actual scholar where we get discounts or anything, in our uni it's the term used for students who have achieved a certain GWA for a certain sem; most other schools call this "dean's list").

More than the academic aspect of my student life drastically improving, I was happier because my social life at uni improved a lot, too. It was at the start of our 2nd year that I finally felt that my blockmates are friends and not mere acquaintances. I felt a great feeling of solidarity with them, especially during the DBS Culminating Activity, and it was very nice. I was also able to share more fun and fulfilling experiences with them during our field/exposure trips. The first one which I really enjoyed was our trip to San Juan, Batangas for our HS20 story-telling project. It was really lucky because we got to go with the TF class (I was in the MTh class along with four other blockmates) where a lot of other blockmates were in and so even though it was a trip for a minor subject, it was still enjoyable because not only did we get to bond with some kids, we also got to bond with each other. A day after that, we went on our exposure trip to the New Bilibid Prison for our Psych150 subject. It was fun and at the same time touching because of the things we learned as we got to mingle with the political prisoners. Both trips were very fulfilling as we got to be in contact with different kinds of people and widen our horizons.

The last and probably my favorite of our trips so far was our NatSci 5 field trip (which I've talked about in a previous post). Even though it wasn't the whole block, it was still such a fun trip. It not only gave us some very nice memories, it also made us appreciate nature more. The beauty of the places we went to will always be vivid in my mind, and the wonderful memories that go along with them will always stay in my heart (Ok, that sounded a bit dramatic, but I wanted it to carry on from the first clause. Haha).

And to end my year with a blast, there's the awesome month of December. I had a lot of fantastic memories this month. First, there's the DBS Christmas Party and Carol Fest, which we won. Haha. It was such an accomplishment for us, and it was truly a fun and memorable event to end the year. I was so proud of our block ;) After bonding with blockmates, of course there's bonding with my best friends and high school friends. Preparing for one of my best friend's debut party was a bit of a hassle, but it was fun nonetheless because we met up a lot due to that. Spending time with them is surely the best way to spend Christmas vacation :)

And then there's Christmas day itself. It was a bit different from the past Christmas parties we used to have, but definitely one of the best! Food, games, dancing and jamming = lots of fun ♥ Being able to bond and have fun with family and friends is truly enough to make the Christmas season joyous and blessed.

Looking back, it was truly a wonderful year, and I'm looking forward to a brighter 2011 ahead. Happy New Year, everyone! :D Off to enjoy the fireworks now~ :)
