I'm glad you are reading and enjoying it. Ennis often frustrates me, too, but I'm hoping the next chapter will improve things a little for everyone. :)
“C’mon,” Jack said. “You feel it, I know you do. You gotta think real hard on this, Ennis-I gave up everythin’ I had, cause I fuckin’ love you. And I know I ain’t in this alone.” He closed his eyes for a moment and let out a long breath.
Finally Ennis took a step forward and brought his hand up slowly from his side, holding it out to Jack. “Yeah. I-”
The sound of a key in the door shattered the delicate balance of the moment that had just begun to heal them.
Oh my. So much is broken, the title fits perfectly to the chapter.
You ain’t gonna . . . stop me from seein’ Bobby now, are you? Cause if that’s in your mind, then I won’t go. This is . . . the biggest thing I ever wanted, Reenie. For me, I mean. But it ain’t worth it if I gotta give up my boy.”
Similar thoughts to the ones Ennis had at the end of the last chapter (and probably still has). Now Jack has the advantage of having an understanding wife (with Patrick in the background). But how will Alma react? What hell will she break loose on Ennis? How are his chances to stay a

I'm so glad you are reading and enjoying. I've been struggling to capture the complexity of this situation: both men care deeply for each other yet are tied to their families in profound ways, and both have a strong sense of responsibility. It's not an easy decision for anyone. New chapter soon!
I agree with everyone's comments so far, this was one stunning chapter, and paced absolutely perfectly from the outset, with Jack's brave but nervous attempts at coming clean to Lureen, I thought the way you described that whole scene was amazing, so clear in my mind, especially the descriptions of Bobby playing blissfully in the background whilst his parents were dealing with a life changing confession. I love how you portray Jack in this fic, Jen, he is the one that will push and strive for that sweet life dream of his, no matter what obstacles are put in his way, and I adored and yet felt sadness for his eternal optimism about Ennis waiting in Riverton with open arms, despite the fact he hadnt been able to contact him once. Jack's welcome for Ennis was so very sweet but I am glad he gave Ennis some serious food for thought, and who knows what Ennis would have said if Alma hadnt come in and broken the moment.
This chapter was so worth the waiting, your writing and descriptive prose is gorgeous and I cant wait for the next
Thanks, hon; your comments mean so much to me. Multiple people have already commented on Jack's strength in this chapter--thanks for pointing out to me that he needed to push Ennis a little more here. Hope you enjoy the new one too. :) xx Jen
okay when is Ennis going to lay things out on the table for Alma? Jack took a huge step telling Lureen he was leaving her. If Ennis isn't going to follow through on his promise well Jack always has a place here with me :D cause I sure would NOT let that gorgeous man slip away from me!
