Character Relationships

: Athrun dislikes you. He'll put a stop (or at least attempt to) to any plans you may have. Be on your guard -- Athrun is not someone to be trifled with.

: Athrun is ambivalent toward you or hasn't seen enough to formulate an opinion yet.

: You've made a good impression on Athrun! He doesn't know you well, but would like to get to know you further.

: Athrun considers you a friend. Definitely someone he enjoys spending time with.

: Athrun cares about you. You now have a fiercely loyal friend. If you're a girl, he may be developing a crush on you...

: You're surrogate family to Athrun. Or perhaps more...

: Expect Athrun to propose to you any day now, ladies. Or, if it's platonic, expect Athrun to always be watching your back, because he'd rather harm come to him than to you.

Canonmates

Lacus Clyne

Don't let the color fool you -- the relationship between Athrun and Lacus is purely a platonic one, even though the two of them were once engaged to each other. Originally, Athrun did have some feelings for Lacus, but in time he came to realize that Lacus was better suited for Kira than for himself. The two of them have remained close friends, and there is no one at present whom Athrun trusts more in Johto. He feels comfortable approaching Lacus about anything that might be troubling him, like he did while trying to stay strong for everyone else while Shedinja were stealing people's souls, and has never once regretted doing so. He'll go to any lengths to help Lacus, and he knows without a doubt that she would do the same for him.

Cross-canon

Rise Kujikawa [Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4]

Rise is Athrun's single closest cross-canon friend in Johto. They traveled together for a long time starting in New Bark Town, and she has been extremely supportive of him, a fact for which he is extremely thankful. Her teasing may hit its mark frequently and she may be a...rather unorthodox cook, but he genuinely enjoys being in her company. She's also the first person he's gone into detail with regarding his past, including the fact that he's a Coordinator, and is glad that she doesn't hold his status as such against him. Athrun one day hopes to resume traveling with Rise again so the two of them plus Yayoi are together.

Yayoi Takatsuki [The iDOLM@STER]

At first, Athrun only knew Yayoi through Rise. However, after spending time traveling with her and staying in Azalea Town, Athrun has grown to consider her a friend himself. She's always bright and cheery, and though Athrun often finds himself explaining things to her, he doesn't mind one bit, especially since she seems earnestly curious. He's recently started to open up to her about his past, and doing so has only increased her admiration of him. He won't say it, but it's nice to have someone who looks up to you.

Mitsuru Kirijo [Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3]

Athrun finds Mitsuru to be a highly capable individual. She seemed unaccustomed to the life they're forced to live while in Johto initially, but as far as he can tell, she has adapted magnificently. She's someone Athrun enjoys spending time with, preferably in person, and just sitting down to talk -- she's almost as intelligent as he is, which always keeps their conversations interesting. He has begun to open up about his past to her, and she has done the same -- in fact, so far, Athrun has told Mitsuru more about his past than he's told anybody else.

Estellise Sidos Heurassein [Tales of Vesperia]

Athrun first met Estelle over the PokéGear once the glitched music began, and gave her the best advice he could. He has since met her in person, and has found her to be a sweet young lady, and one who reminds him of Lacus in multiple ways. He was sad to part ways with her, and hopes to travel with her in person once again.

Keiichi Maebara [Higurashi no Naku Koro ni]

The sole other guy in the traveling group besides Hayate and Athrun himself. Keiichi is a friendly, upbeat individual, which is something Athrun can appreciate. He really appreciates all of his female friends, but Athrun also likes having another guy around who's as easily approachable. He also understands that Keiichi has a..."healthy appreciation" for the female form, but hasn't seen it as too harmful...yet.

Midori Komaki [Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor]

Athrun gave Midori a hand when she first arrived, and helped her get her bearings in this new world. Then she happened to befriend Lacus. Getting to know Midori ended up being a small string of coincidences, but Athrun doesn't mind at all, because she's enjoyable company. She's very upbeat, seems to love learning about other people's worlds, and enjoys spending time with both him and Lacus. He's had to comfort her on a few occasions, but each time he's been able to make her feel better.

Sheryl Nome [Macross Frontier]

Yet another idol singer! They met when Athrun offered Sheryl some advice right after she first arrived, and then learned that she, too, had met Lacus. He enjoys talkign with her, particularly when they discuss the world she comes from -- her world is more technologically advanced than even his, so he's fascinated to hear about what she's experienced. Also, when Sheryl collapsed after having her soul stolen, Athrun was able to find her and bring her inside to relative safety, and didn't stop chasing Shedinja until she had woken up. That's the sort of thing you can't do without feeling some kind of friendliness toward the person you helped.

Rika Furude [Higurashi no Naku Koro ni]

Athrun and Rika have only spoken in depth a handful of times, but so far, Athrun likes what he's seen of Rika. He's seen a nice, sweet young girl who's very respectful and willing to listen to favors, such as Athrun's request to change the subject when the topic of conversation got too personal for him. He doesn't know that there's much more to her than that yet -- but hopefully, one day, they'll confide in each other.

Hayate Ayasaki [Hayate the Combat Butler]

If nothing else, Hayate seems like a capable person. He seems like a bit of a dork, but nothing wrong with that, right? After all, Athrun has a dorky side, too. He's also a pretty nice guy, and helped put Athrun's mind at ease with what information he provided, albeit little, regarding the four fugitives. He's also very thankful to Hayate for letting him and Yayoi tag along with their group. They do have some difficulty communicating at times, though, due to their different natures -- Hayate doesn't like talking about extremely serious subjects, and Athrun is a serious person. Athrun's currently trying to find a way to fix that.

Dale Cooper [Twin Peaks]

Athrun has spoken with Cooper a fair few times over the PokéGear. He doesn't know much about Cooper yet, but can tell that he's got a good head on his shoulders. The couple conversations they've had have been fairly intellectual, and Athrun is always willing to engage in conversation that stimulates his brain.

Suzaku Kururugi [Code Geass]

They've talked a few times, and so far, Athrun has a favorable impression of Suzaku. Part of that may be the fact that he can sense a kindred spirit within him, though. He seems to be a person who doesn't like violence, but nevertheless trains to become stronger. He looks forward to getting to know him better.

Maria Ushiromiya [Umineko no Naku Koro Ni]

Athrun and Maria first met when Athrun tried to comfort Maria when some of her friends and family members left. He was able to cheer her up, and they got to talking further upon discovering that they had a mutual friend in Shinn. To Athrun, Maria appears to be a cute, cheery young girl, and he would like to get to know her better. He intends to attend her ice cream party in the hopes of doing that.

Asuka Tenjoin [Yu-Gi-Oh! GX]

Asuka is another member of Hayate's traveling party. Unfortunately, despite traveling with Hayate's group for a while now, Athrun hasn't had much opportunity to speak with Asuka. As far as he has been able to tell, though, she's a strong, self-motivated individual, which is always admirable.

Otacon (Hal Emmerich) [Metal Gear Solid]

Otacon seems to have a good grasp on technology, which Athrun, being an engineer himself, can appreciate. He'd like to have a more in-depth discussion with him at some point, regarding both engineering and the world they're currently in. And no, Athrun has no idea that Otacon is familiar with all of his exploits thanks to anime. Sadly, it's been a long time since they've spoken, so they've fallen out of touch -- hence the purple.
