Rome has been good to us overall ...... I loved its helpful and beautiful people (with exceptions off course), I loved the ruins and the museums, I loved the gelato, and lastly I love how few tourists there were given it is winter here ( Read more... )

Pickpockets and the street sellers are a plague in Rome. Romans are (rightfully by now) so fed up with no one doing anything that there's at least a good sense of community to protect each other against this, so I'm glad that people on the train did something to stand for you. It's a disgrace that what most people visiting remember of the city is this. Same with food - food in central Rome is (mostly) disgusting and overpriced. Also, the other thing with Rome is that what looks dodgy is actually the best of Rome, it's the real Rome. Rome is falling apart as a city, so unfortunately other neighbours don't look as appealing as touristy areas, but they are perfectly fine places and, as you found out, where the best restaurants and bars are!
