Last week I went on the Aus. Union of Jewish Students Exec conference in Bendigo.  It was......surprisingly good. In fact.... it was really good.  Wasn't worried about the location. Bendigo is a lovely place.  We were meant to be near a lake but it was more like a big puddle because of the drought but it was a beautiful campsite and the nights ( Read more... )

What a blast!!! I've been hanging out with a Hillel group off and on, from my uni. My family is dumbfounded. I had similar experiences as you growing up, but these guys are pretty cool and might allow me to drop, or alter, my mantra of "Jews annoy me!" ;)

But I'm still convinced you and I HAVE to be the coolest ones around!!

I missed the part about the Japanese student! I hope she opens up to. I have a Japanese language partner (in all my fumbling, dumber-than-a-japanese-kindergartener speech!) who is REALLY different than me. She is very tall, wears pearls and heels and nice cashmere sweaters to school.. she's very girly. Here I am in jeans and a "DR. PEPPER" tshirt and doc martens, wondering how THIS is going to work. It turns out we get along great and we're a huge help to each other! Lucky, I guess.

Wow! I have a similar mantra. Although mine is a lot ruder and I dare not repeat it here :) I think we had a guys from Hillel at the conference, he was the AUssie rep.

My Jap student is realllllly girly too (Onna-rashi) but I think most of the girls there are like that neee? Or maybe just the ones I've met. Either way, clothes shouldn't hinder a friendship.

I played monopoly with Shinobu (my host student) today and she couldn't stop laughing when I told her that if you roll doubles three times in a row you GO TO JAIL.

I think, to be fair, most people in year 8 are "stuck up, nasty and clicky" - not to mention rude, arrogant, cruel and spiteful - but I'm so glad you enjoyed this experience! Really "getting away" from people and places like that are so beneficial to the mind and state of being, and I agree, I think that's probably exactly what you needed to feel a bit better about things. Eppalock is such a sad and sorry sight to see at the moment - even sadder still since I remember swimming with Pauly a few years ago where you now need to drive OVER in order to get to the "water"! Us city slickers are so far removed from the widespread effects of the drought (And no, complaining about the high cost of fruit and vegies in the shops doesn't count!) that it's not even funny.

Good luck with your presentation, and I'll see you tonight, oh fellow squishie chaser!
