Benny slouched down in the theater seat, resting her legs on the seat in front of her, staring at a six foot tall plumber racing across the cinema screen. She rubbed her eyes, as she watched the figure drop down into an atrociously green pipe. She would have to have a talk with Jason concerning twentieth century entertainment when she went home again.
The last few days with Ollie and Brax felt oddly domestic. She almost forgot that the little boy in front of her was actually a grown man. She was used to little boys walking around in grown mens bodies, but the inverse was something else entirely. She was surprised at how comfortable it all felt and how much she actually found herself enjoying the routine of it all. It made her think of what the years ahead would be like, coming home to Jason and Peter and relaxing into a life she had always sworn she would avoid at any cost. It was terrifying how comfortable it all felt. Usually she would have the impulse to run, but maybe all the changes that she had been going through lately had exhausted her. Maybe this was some sort of surrender or maturity or something else entirely. The concept was depressing and a relief.
And it was all topped off with a small pang she felt, because the more time she spent here with Ollie, the more she missed Peter, the more she looked forward to him getting older, and the more she feared the idea that her Peter, much like Ollie, was a little boy that at any moment would turn into a man. Fortunately Peter wasn't even a little boy quite yet, but even that could only last so long.
She groaned at her own internal monologue. She was tired and had gone far too many days without even a proper drink, and this was all utterly ridiculous. So she did what she always did and pushed down the nagging thoughts and smiled more and played along with whatever the boys were playing at today.
