Characters: Oliver Day (oliverplus)
Location: The strange computer room
Time: Broadcast on a screen where your character can watch it
Summary: Oliver makes a choice.

The television screen begins broadcasting to show that small, dark room again. This time, Oliver is in it, standing just a few steps from the computer desk. He is understandably disoriented by the sudden change in scenery--not to mention the sudden changes in his mind. He puts a hand to his head. "What just...?"

But he trails off, looking around him even as he tries to sort out his thoughts. His attention is drawn to the computer, and he steps forward, sitting down to read the screen:

In the end, everyone has a price. What is your price, Oliver Day?

His eyes widen at those words, all thoughts about his recent experiences chased away. "I...I don't understand."

But he does--he understands immediately what it wants to know--and he receives a mild shock for that comment. Oliver cries out more in surprise than pain. "Hey!" He eyes the machine for a moment, annoyed at it because that's an easier reaction than the other feelings bubbling up inside him. But his put-on annoyance can't last, and he sighs, fear beginning to creep into his gaze. "I won't let you buy me."

That's worth another shock. Oliver hisses, closing his eyes. "I..."

He can't say it. He stares at the screen, mouth open with the words that won't quite come. And then he stands up, turns, and walks away to the corner of the room.

The feed cuts to static. When it comes back in, Oliver is pacing about the room, his hair now mussed but otherwise the same as before. There's no telling how long has passed. But only seconds after the feed resumes, Oliver ceases pacing and goes over to the computer, sitting back down.

"People's safety."

He hisses, shocked again for that. It's a price, yes, but not the right price--not the real one. He knows that. It couldn't possibly be the price he would pay to hurt the people on the Plane. But he doesn't want to believe--or doesn't want to admit--that there is one. "Damnit, my friends' safety!" Another shock. "The Doctor's!"

Oliver rolls the chair back at that shock, trying to get away from the microphone and the computer and...all of this. He stays there, just eyeing the microphone warily, and the feed cuts to static again. When it comes back, it's just in time for him to sigh and pull back up to the computer. He opens his mouth. Nothing comes out at first. He swallows hard, pauses again. And then, his voice shaking, says softly, "Life at home with Chloe Elliot."

And then he closes his eyes, opening them only after the computer's display has changed to read:

There is always something people would pay to have. Remember that.

The feed cuts out.
