The first thing greeting Oliver was a white-dressed soldier with a blade thrust through his stomach. He made a pained face and gurgled the last of his life as he fell to his knees. Behind him was Asch, ever the shadow of death, his foot braced against the man's back so that he could pull out his sword.

He hesitated to sheathe his sword. "Oliver?" His voice was thick with disbelief, perhaps a bit higher since he was caught off guard. "What are you doing here?!"

Well, this looked bad, didn't it?

Surrounding them were grassy plains, and in the distance a plateau of some sort. The sky was a bright, clear blue, and the iridescent Fonbelt was visible in the sky.

There were also three other dead soldiers, but that was beside the point.

Oliver was not at all expecting the sight that greeted him when he arrived in Auldrant. In fact, he was so stunned that all he could do was take a few stumbling steps back and hope that maybe this time he was dreaming. But it couldn't be a dream, could it? There was a dead man at his feet, bleeding away on the ground, and he could smell it, and weren't smells supposed to be missing from dreams? Even so, he hoped it was a dream because the alternative was that he had appeared just in time to see someone be killed, and he didn't want to believe that. He could already feel the guilt welling up inside him at the very thought ( ... )

He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to be having this conversation with Oliver especially. Asch didn't believe that Oliver was innocent to fighting, to the consequences of war. But exposing him to it unnecessarily wouldn't help his cause. He had to acknowledge that he placed some trust in the man-- yes, he was older than Asch by some years-- and while that terrified him in some respects, it was good to have a capable ally on the Plane. That was what Asch told himself, that their friendship was one of business and sometimes complaining, and not much more than that. But Asch had fed him and watched him while Oliver was a child, and he had watched over him yet again when Oliver's life was on the line ( ... )

The physical contact snapped him out of it more than anything. He jerked away, taking several quick steps backwards. "I see you!" he snapped, his horror quickly turning to anger. His mind was screaming for Asch and his bloody hands to stay bloody well away from him. Oliver had just watched him kill in cold blood, and as unbelievable as that was, what was somehow worse was how calm Asch was being about it. Had Oliver really misjudged him that badly?

"What is this?" Oliver demanded, jerking his hand to take in the soldiers around them. "Why!?" The word was much stronger this time--and much angrier.

"Whoa! ....You're in Daath." Was the rather confused answer from a young blond man dressed in rather nice clothing. Standing next to him were several knights in what might be a familiar white uniform--more white, without the bloodstains from sword wounds inflicted by Asch.

The knights looked at the blond, and the blond shrugged a little, finishing the gesture of handing a sealed and be-ribboned document over to them.

"You should probably get that to Treitheim." Guy suggested amiably. The men in uniform hesitated, saluted, and moved on, obviously reluctant to move from the scene.

"So." The remaining man, the blond, watched the knights to be sure they were gone. "Welcome to Daath. That was an interesting entrance. Travel like that often?"

His voice was friendly enough, but he was taking it all a little too calmly to be normal.

Oliver just blinked at the unfamiliar man surrounded by other men in white uniforms. He was too disoriented by his sudden trip to yet another new location to do anything else at first. But as he noticed the other observers, he had to hold back a gasp. He knew those uniforms! While they spoke with the young man who seemed to be in charge, Oliver concentrated on trying very hard not to show that he'd recognised them--though he wasn't sure what he should look like, considering he'd just popped out of nowhere.

Thankfully, the men in uniform left almost immediately, leaving Oliver with the young bloke who seemed to be in charge--who was asking him questions, at that. "Uh..." With his mind racing, Oliver tried to come up with something to say that would help the situation rather than make it worse. Obviously he was on the same world as Asch's, but it couldn't be Asch's again...could it? Even if it was, he'd clearly left and gone somewhere very different from the grassy plains where Asch was. He wondered if that meant someone else ( ... )

Guy watched Oliver with a mild smile, completely masking whatever was going on in the back of his mind as he considered the other man. If he hadn't been to the Plane himself and experienced the fairy tale experiment, he'd be much more weirded out. But he thought he could guess what was going on. It'd be better to make sure, of course. Random teleporting young men who didn't know what planet they were on was a bit far out there.

"Auldrant." He supplied helpfully. "Yeah. Not from around here?" It was sort of a trick question, and how Oliver answered would determine what Guy decided to do with him. He didn't really have the authority to arrest Oliver, but the man probably didn't know that. And Guy could always leave him with Anise--or maybe that would be cruel.

"Yeah, Auldrant! That one!" Oliver declared, glad to hear he at least knew what planet he was on. This was definitely the same one as Asch's and Jade's, then--except neither of them were here, so the knowledge still didn't do much to solve his current problem. "You could say that," he replied to Guy's question, smiling a little sheepishly. He wished he knew if there was anyone else from the Plane here. It would have made this so much easier. As it was, Oliver was completely at a loss for what to say. But he reminded himself that he and the Doctor had done this a million times before. Surely he'd figure out how to muddle through somehow, even without any excuse for being here ( ... )

First, Oliver was startled by landing in yet another world. Second, he was startled by being referred to as "Your Majesty." In fact, for one very confused instant he wondered if he'd been sent to an extremely twisted alternate universe. Then he realised that Jade just hadn't looked at him at first, which was comforting. He wasn't sure how he would have handled even pretending to be royalty. But unfortunately that was the point when he was startled for a third time.

"What!? I didn't hear anything!" he cried, staring at Jade and trying to gauge if he was being serious. Right now, he really wished he knew him better.

Oliver attempted to say several things to Jade that came out as nothing more than the beginnings of words he gave up on. There really wasn't anything to say to that--especially in the face of Jade's rather unsettling amused expression. Oliver scowled, wondering where the Doctor was to at least make a proper attempt to get them out of trouble before inevitably getting them thrown in a cell anyway. That would have been about as effective at his attempts at defense, at least.

"It's not my fault the Plane sent me here!" he finally burst out, rather lamely.

Although it was still early when Oliver arrived in Camelot, the summer sun had already warmed up the sand coloured stones of the castle and forced Guinevere to discard her heavy cloak. She was carrying a bucket of water - which she almost spilled in her shock - across the courtyard when he appeared.

"Oliver?"

She glanced frantically around, but it seemed that his arrival - something that would have been taken as a sure sign of sorcery - had gone unnoticed. These days, the people of Camelot were busy with their own concerns.

"It's all right, they haven't seen you," she said with breathless relief, grabbing his arm to pull him out of sight. "What are you doing in Camelot?"

Oliver had barely had a chance to take in the world around him before Gwen grabbed him and started dragging him after her. "Whoa, what's wrong?" he hissed, getting the distinct impression that shouting would be a bad idea in the current circumstances. He hurried the way she was pulling, though, as it was obviously important that he do so.

At her question, he could only shake his head. "I keep showing up on different worlds. I can't go to the Plane or home or anything! It must be some sort of experiment. Sorry, Gwen."

But then her words fully connected through his surprise, and his eyes widened. "Wait. I'm on Camelot!? Oh god, you're from Camelot!" He couldn't help the excitement in his tone, his voice growing a bit louder than he'd meant it to. He was in the legendary Camelot!

"Magic is outlawed in Camelot," she said in an urgent whisper, "If you'd been seen, you would have been arrested for practicing sorcery."

The silence - and the fact that they weren't followed by angry shouts or the sound of running feet - confirmed that they were truly safe. In the shadows of the castle wall, Gwen allowed herself to relax and greet Oliver with a warm hug.

His excitement made her smile.

"Yes, this is Camelot," she agreed, "Perhaps I should give you a tour?"

Oliver's eyes widened. "Oh," was all he could manage. He was glad he hadn't been seen now, too--not that it would have been the first time he'd been arrested. But he had a feeling there were plenty of things in Camelot he'd rather see than a cell.

He hugged Gwen back, smiling at the greeting. It was good to see that she was as glad to have him here as he was to be here, especially as that hadn't always been the case at his previous destinations. At the offer of a tour, his eyes widened for an entirely different reason. "That would be fantastic!" he gasped.

In the old days, Leela had always taken the time to watch the suns setting on Gallifrey. Not any more. She could not see the suns, any more than she could see the red grass that she felt between her bare toes or watch the silver leaves flutter in the same breeze that tugged at her hair.

She patrolled the winding corridors of the Capitol late into the night, searching for the hidden dangers that were sure to come. The planet was as beautiful as ever, even in the aftermath of a vicious civil war, but Leela was restless. Romana and her few friends on Gallifrey were all that she had left.

Except for her friends on the Plane, of course. But she had not expected to hear any of their familiar voices here.

"... Oliver?"

Appearing in a dark room was definitely not Oliver's favourite thing, especially when he had absolutely no idea what world--or even what sort of world--it was on. He was startled enough already that he jumped rather spectacularly at the voice, quite as surprised as Leela was. It took him a second to realise who it was. "Leela!?" he called. "Where are we?"

It was a reflexive question to ask when you were in the dark. Considering where he'd been appearing up until now, he at least knew that Leela being here meant he was on her world--but he gasped as the realisation hit him. He knew what Leela's world was. "Is this...is this Gallifrey!?"

Oliver was not the first person from the Plane to have visited her unexpectedly on Gallifrey. Her surprise did not last long and she could not help but laugh in response to his gasp of apparent delight.

"Yes," she confirmed, "This is the Capitol and I do not think you are here to visit the High Council. Did the Plane send you here?"

"Whoa, I'm in the Capitol!?" he gasped. This just got better and better. He was so surprised that he couldn't think of a single thing to say and settled for looking around in squinting awe. Thankfully, her question at least got him speaking again. "Huh? Oh, yeah! I don't know, it just keeps happening, and I can't go anywhere by thinking about it. I'll probably end up somewhere else soon."

But first he was definitely getting a look at Gallifrey. "So the High Council is here? Of the Time Lords?" he asked, the awe and excitement slipping easily back into his tone.
