A brief, voluntary plot, for fun and for profit. A game, if you will.
Have any of you watched Labyrinth? No? What about Pan's Labyrinth? Goodness, what a traumatic film. For a lark, we're going to do a labyrinth plot. Which is more like a level on a video game than a plot, really.
WHAT IS GOING ON?
For the duration of the plot, characters will be paired up. When it is a pair's turn to enter the labyrinth, their realities will disappear and they will find themselves together somewhere in the labyrinth. They will not be able to go to the Plane while in the labyrinth, nor will they be able to go back to their realities. For the very slow characters, there will be a small card that simply says 'get to the centre.' As the card says, the characters only have to get to the centre to beat the level.
WHAT IS THE LABYRINTH LIKE?
The labyrinth is, basically, a reality shared by all who go there, like the Plane. It is made of stone and is very confusing to look at. It is three dimensional and looks like a cross between MC Escher's Relativity and Bowie's Labyrinth. Like the Bowie Labyrinth, it is oddly glittery. Sadly, there is no package-attached-to-a-man wandering through the labyrinth with a swish cane and floating balls.
Inside the labyrinth, there are plenty of traps of all kinds. There are monsters, riddles, spiky pits, and all the rest. There are no Minotaurs, but otherwise, whatever you want to be in the labyrinth can be in the labyrinth. It's all up to you what your characters face. Drug trips, hallucinations of ex-lovers, dinosaurs, talking stone walls, muppets, Lady Gaga as a zombie, whatever.
WHAT IS AT THE CENTRE?
When characters get to the centre of the labyrinth, there will simply be a black orb. There is an abnormal concentration of magic in the orb, so characters who are magically sensitive may be able to sense it.
When a character touches the orb, they return to their reality. The labyrinth is gone and no longer accessible.
WHO IS WORKING TOGETHER?
Sign up here and we'll do a dice roll to pair people up. They will appear together. Nothing will stop one from abandoning another, but characters may find the labyrinth much easier to do with the help of someone who has skills they don't.
If you want to team-up with other teams, it is perfectly possible for them to bump into each other during their travels through the labyrinth. We picked pairs just so that it would be easiest for people to get organized.
We'll announce the pairs on Friday. Late-comers will be paired together, or they can join another pair if they like.
WHEN SHALL WE THREE MEET AGAIN?
After the pairings are set up, you can do it whenever you want. Not everyone has to do the labyrinth at the same time. Some characters may finish it before others start it. Some may take longer to finish it. Some may take less time. Go wild and have fun whenever it best fits your schedule.
WHERE THE PLACE?
If you want to do it as a first person post, then make a post for you and your partner(s?) in the main community and go for it. Just remember that if you post it in the main community, it isn't a Plane post, so it's not like any given person not in the Labyrinth can wander in. If you want to do it in third person, make a post in the log community and go for it. We thought it would be easier to organize it by writing-style, and as we want you to be able to do it whenever you like, we did not want to make two big posts like party posts for it.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO PUT THIS NOTE:
Because characters are not necessarily paired up with people they have full mergers with, assume that they are removed from their normal reality for however long it takes them to be complete the labyrinth. For those without full-mergers, their home realities will be put on hold, just like when they visit the Plane. For those with full mergers, the people left behind may indeed notice their missing partners.
As always: comments, questions, cookies, and concerns are welcomed.
