Title: The Beginning Of Yet Another Improbable Adventure
Author: Kel tehkellerz
Character/Fandom: Minato Arisato / Persona 3
Prompt: 15. Close Combat
Word Count: 1,225
Summary: This is the stuff that happened before Minato's first post to the main community.

Also, it's not in chronological order. You could probably argue that there's one story with its paragraphs randomly thrown about into another story. This is how it was written, and this is how it will be seen. Because I like to confuse people.

BANG

Minato's Persona blocked the monster's next attack as he ran off to the side. He wouldn't have been able to accurately describe the monster, given the chance. It looked like an octopus, or squid, or maybe a jellyfish, but it was eating a brick build- wait, wasn't that building always like that? No, why would they purposely build an office half standing? Could be one of those Modern Style things. Yeah, that building's been like that for a while.

"I don't sense anything, Minato."

He had asked Fuuka earlier if any Shadows were out right now. Describing a Creepy Pair Of Twins' Science Experiments as Shadows seemed to be the easiest way to avoid explaining what happened to him at the Pharmacy that day. It also completely disregarded the entire Astral Plane thing. However, it did make Fuuka raise an eyebrow at him. Dark Hour was more than seven hours away.

A tentacle landed behind him, shaking the ground. He stabbed it with his sword as he stumbled, forcing the creature to withdraw its appendage and taking his modified sword with it.

"You'll need this!" they proclaimed in perfect unison, each with a hand on the jar they were shoving into his chest. One was supposedly a girl and the other was allegedly a boy, but he couldn't tell them apart to save his life. He suspected they were doing this on purpose. One day, he couldn't help feeling, his life would depend on telling them apart.

He had been on the astral plane beforehand. There was a woman there, Meredith, whose smile was reminiscent of Pharos. Upon being told nothing particularly useful (also reminiscent of Pharos), he found himself in front of the shop, only to be grabbed by both arms and dragged inside again.

Minato raised a gun to his head and fired without hesitation. An angelic being appeared in front of him, swiping a sword in the air and sending a wind attack strong enough to blow the monster back several yards. It sank its teeth into the pavement to stop itself, chewing on the asphalt as it lifted itself up onto its tentacles.

The city really needed to fill that giant pothole, Minato mused. It could blow out a tire. Why did they let it get so bad? It looked like a giant monster had just eaten a huge chu- wait a minute.

"And this!" They shoved a fishing pole in his face. "Unless you have something more practical." He did. He had a sword. Except he didn't carrying a sword with him when he went to school. He took the fishing pole, and they promised to modify his sword if he brought it to them.

The monster mimicked the Persona's attack, but instead of sending wind at Minato, it sent Minato flying into the wind. It also knocked the wind out of him, especially landing on the pavement and rolling like that. His gun was now in possession of the tentacle fiend, which it seemed amused with, as it fired nothing into the air repeatedly. Too bad he didn't have that fishing pole right now.

He lay on the ground, trying to get his lungs to work correctly. It was then that he saw it, the jewel. It wasn't in a practical place, like the main body, or on top of its head. Even inside its mouth would have been easier. Nope, this jewel lay about half way down one of its limbs, which was squirming excitedly.

"Are you okay?" A pair of students had run up to him as he forced himself to stand. "That looked brutal!" Minato didn't say anything. He just looked at them, breathing heavy, and then over at the monster playing with his evoker. "How did you fall from that high anyway? Did you jump off something?"

Minato ignored them.

"There'll be a jewel on it somewhere," the twins informed him. Their unison was mesmerizing. "You have to knock that off to kill it, but it won't just come off! You'll have to attack it first, weaken it. But you can do that easy, right? Your file says you're one of those suicide kids!"

He used the last of his medical powder and carefully circled the monster. On one tentacle was the jewel, in another was lodged his sword, and in a third his evoker gun was being worn out. The kids watched him for a moment and, deciding he wasn't doing anything particularly interesting, headed back the way they came.

He carefully reached for his sword. The tentacle whipped it around and out of his reach. He carefully approached it, reaching for it again. The limb whipped around and smacked him in the head, though the monster didn't seem to notice this. It let out a noise, something like a grunt. It had evidently become bored with the gun. It lowered the gun towards its mouth.

Minato grabbed the arm his sword was stuck in and shouted. It wasn't a word he shouted, just some noise to distract the creature from eating his evoker. Why his gun was no longer existing was not something he wanted to try to explain to his teammates in any way, shape, or form. It worked. The octopus jellyfish squid thing stopped the advancement and curiously turned its head to the boy pulling a sword out of its appendage.

The pharmacy in Paulownia Mall had changed over night. It still proclaimed "Pharmacy", but the outside looked rather like a cottage, which couldn't be more out of place in the mall. That, and odd sounds were coming from it. Sounds that seemed familiar to him, but falsely so, as if he had only heard the sound in dreams before. Déjà vu, he shook his head unconcernedly, and walked inside.

He hacked and slashed the monster's assault, chopping away at its limbs, his gun having been thrown to the other side of the creature when it remembered just what it was doing before finding the toy. Slash slash slash, bits of its tentacles flew here and there as it cried out in pain. And then it stopped moving altogether. The monster stopped flailing wildly, and fell over onto its side. The jewel had been chopped off in Minato's frantic attack.

He stared at it a moment before picking it up. He walked calmly, though fatigued, over to his gun, which he later used hidden in an alley to summon what looked like a comma to heal him. Then he did it again. His cuts, scrapes, and bruises disappeared, leaving only light bloodstains on his clothes. About a block and a half down, he found the jar he had set out of the way, where he gently dropped the gem. The mall was a good walk, monorail ride, and another good walk away. If they weren't on that astral plane thing, they wouldn't get this jewel until tomorrow.

When he had first entered the new store, a pair of twins clad in white looked up at him, stopping whatever they were fiddling with to introduce themselves excitedly. "You're just in time for some real excitement, too!" But Minato didn't come here to investigate. He had a reason to enter the store that proclaimed to be the pharmacy. He asked them a question before he blacked out.

"Do you sell medical powder?"
