Mistery Radio Signals

Mar 08, 2007 01:01

so I've noticed that when I have my earphones plugged into my speakers, turn the volume on the speakers all the way down, and the volume on my earphones all the way up I start picking up a radio station. Right now I'm listening to songs without a radio...

best I can figure it must be that the radio signal is being picked up in the coil around the speaker magnet and then being transmitted to your headphones. I've never thought of using a speaker as an antenna, but then again it wouldn't work for me since there's no headphone jack in my speakers

the FM radio in my old CD player used headphone wire as an antennae to pick up the signal, and this probably uses them as an antennae to. I don't doubt that the wire coil around the magnet amplifies the signal just like radios do, but what is interesting is that the volume on the speakers seem to act as a tuner.
