Ellis knew three things: one, he loved "Miss" Jo Harvelle; two, he was going to marry her in a few weeks or months, and third, and he can't stress that one enough, she was a huntress and he wasn't. It's on one of those nights that Jo woke up and realized Ellis wasn't in bed. She groaned as she got up and had she still been a vampire, she could've just sniffed him out, but it slightly worried her that he wasn't there. Ellis was occupying tearing the pig a new smile when he heard Jo walk down those stairs. He flicked the knife clean, something he learned watching old samurai movies and used frequently in 'Vannah. "I'm righ' here, Baby Girl," he assured, wiping the cold sweat from his brow. The hick had been so completely focused on getting things right that he forgot he could make her worry. "Jus' tryin' to make som' fresh bacon?"

Never mind the monster books he was reading and reciting.

When she saw him, she lowered her rifle and quirked a brow. "Seriously? Fresh bacon at three in the morning? I know you're lying because you're horrible at it. I thought... " she shook her head, pushing the thought of something happening to him out of her head. Plus, she saw the books and that had her giving him a curious look. "Are you trying to learn to be a hunter, Ellis?"
