Awww man GoT. Books 4 and 5 were...rough. I recall them taking a very long time to get through. I have also stopped watching the show cause man I don't care anymore??? IDK it's good of course but...yeaaaah. Apparently this season they are diverging from the books quite a bit which doesn't really make sense to me.
I don't feel a need to watch the show until it's put right in front of me, at which point I can watch for as long as you'll play episodes, and then wander away and not care again. They chose such perfect actors that it's always a joy to watch, but at the same time you can tell that everything is going to take forever to happen, so I don't feel any urgency to catch up.
As for the books, I'm pretty sure I'll always want to read any chapters from Sansa, Arya and Bran's POV, so that will be something to keep me going (I'm aware something has probably happened to one of those characters to make that statement very ironic. oh well.).
Books 4 and 5 happen at the same time so he split the characters across the two books (so you won't see any of character A in book 4 but character A will be in book 5 while character B will be all up in book 4 but not in 5).
