I keep being too busy to post here

My new job has kept me fantastically busy. There are days when I adore my job, and days when I loathe it. Yesterday was a mixed one. I lost my monthly pass while ON THE TRAIN, and was given the run around by the station staff--one of the station guards totally was ignoring me despite being frazzled and I wanted to punch him in sensitive regions ( Read more... )

I'm glad to hear that the new job is going well!! Having great coworkers really makes the difference~

I have a bit of nanny advice for the hitter~ As soon as kids learn how to talk, that's when teaching them how to use their words can begin. If you talk to him one and one and explain that you understand that he wants to talk/play with you, but we use our words and not our fists to say our feelings. When we use our words, we can say our feelings and hear our friends' feelings. That makes everyone happy! But if we use our fists, then our feelings are still secret and our friends are sad because we hit them.
Give him some key phrases like,"Can I say something?" and "Can you play with me?" and explain that when it's an appropriate time, you will say yes! If he hits you, you can refer back to your convo and remind him to please use his words. It will take time and reinforcement but you can do it!!

George RR Martin has been a bit more reasonable about the scheduling of his writing the Robert Jordan ever was and has been much better about not going off on unimportant tangents as well. I'll admit though, once Robert Jordan's health concerns got serious, which the had been for quiet some time before he passed I always'd get annoyed with people who were like "Rar, write faster!" because they were totally lucky he was writing anything at all. It's much easier to read and enjoy long series like that when they're finished though. It's actually a well known fact of the Robert Jordan fandom that reaching the end of what's available kills a lot of people's love for the series. I know I certainly don't like they nearly as much know as a did then. There are a lot of things I glossed over in my "I wonder what happens next" phase that bug me to no end when I try reread them.

I feel like I have to come to GRRM's defense here because I know he gets a ton of fan-hate for moving at his own pace. (Not that I think your comments qualify as 'fan-hate'; they are pretty reasonable actually.) I don't think that "moving at one's own pace" qualifies as deliberately slow and uncaring. I bet he cares a lot, and I bet it kills him to hear some of the things people say about him. I also bet that he is moving as quickly as he feels he safely and sanely can, and still come out with a book he's happy with. But he has to do what he has to do, for his own muse and for his own sanity.

Of course, I totally hear you on wanting to wait for the series to be complete before picking it up. I tend to be the same way with series books ;)
