Everyone remembers differently.
Most of the others remember the good times, the best things about you, the happy memories. All the awards we shared on stage, the parties and times when there was nothing but smiles on your face, so they can remember your happy face forever.
Many remember everything about you, every tiny detail that they can salvage. They hold on to every single moment, the draining dance lessons and confusing conversations in jumbled Korean and awkward Chinese, even the misunderstandings and the rare argument. They hold on to anything and everything, so they can keep your memory as vivid as possible.
Some doesn’t have to remember you, because they never let you become something that needs to be remembered. You are still there beside us at the breakfast table and there on stage right at the front. They don’t forget and for them, you are still here.
I choose not to remember you. The words we exchange, the gazes we shared, the promises we made, I forget them all. To remember would hurt too much, and I know you don’t want me to hurt for you.
So I do this for you instead, I forget.
