snorkackcatcher Rating: PG-13
Characters/Pairings: Cho Chang, Michael Corner, Marietta Edgecombe, Gen
Fandom: Harry Potter
Summary: Cho had enjoyed her visits to Guangzhou. She wasn't at all sure she wanted to live there. But when her parents moved their family away because of the war, she found herself trying to build a new life in China -- and struggling to reconcile it with her unfinished business in Britain.
This is a fascinating look at cross-cultural differences in magic. The author paints a clear and believable picture of magic in China with intriguing ideas about the use and contribution of strength of magic. All this is well-integrated into Cho's story, supporting it but not taking over the scenes with too much history and detail. The story ultimately manages to answer the question behind Cho's arrival at Hogwarts while properly introducing us to (and three-dimensionalising) a secondary canon character that ordinary suffers a lot of flak as Harry's failed romantic interest.
