They know this because the smal Timers on their inner wrists tell them that they are meant to be together-and not because they’ve chosen each other. In theory, it will be easy for Annabeth to keep up the wall that surrounds her heart and stop herself from falling for Percy. In execution? Well, that’s a completely different story.
Why you should read this …
I’m generally picky with AU fics, where I take the view where AU should spring from a specific alternate path from canon. This fic is a very different type of AU-the characters transplanted into a completely different universe without explanation. That warning aside, it was very well done, with a well thought-out plot and background. The characters’ personalities stayed recognisable (though with the new universe and scenario it could arguably function well with other character names). The authors use the chosen pairings very well to contrast three relationship types in their created world very neatly. Although the premise is based off a popularised (and usually cliché) tumblr trope, the story really explored the ramifications involved with that idea thoroughly. I would have liked to see that developed even further, as I did think there was more to be explored, but what the authors did with it was well-written and drew me in very quickly. It’s one of those long chapter fics that are kind of impossible not to read in one sitting! It’s a romance fic (and does include explicit detail, though it is a small part of the story) but it also discusses elements of society and government and paternalistic legislature as well. Because of this, I found it thought-provoking and definitely something you can really sink your teeth into!
