Hey, I forgot to mention - we have a new house!

Last fall hubby decided to bid on a house around the corner and we bought it. For $3000 more than it had been listed for before the auction, but whatever... Cost about a third what this one did but they're about the same size and the new one's not in such good shape ( Read more... )

*looks up Peneuche Fudge* Actually, that looks amazing. I'll have to add it to the list of Things To Cook When It's Not Too Hot To Turn On The Stove.

Maybe it can be eating fudge in a hammock day...

Yeah, if I end up cooking anything at all, it needs to be today, since tomorrow the temps are supposed to be back in the nineties. We have a couple of air conditioners but not nearly enough to keep the whole house cool, and none of them are in the kitchen.

I expect if I poked around I could find a penuche fudge recipe you can do in the microwave but I'm just not as enthused about cooking in general once it gets this hot.

Our AC does its best but against desert summer temps it really doesn't stand a chance.

It's a good time for fruits and veggies though- I'm headed to the farmer's market this afternoon in search of anything you can eat raw.

I had to look up Queen Anne houses - and they're wonderful! Just like fairy tale houses.

I looked up the fudge too - and if you're sharing recipes I'd be interested. It is definitely fudge weather here...

Our Queen Anne is missing all the gingerbread and while there's a cool attic window in the front, it's been sided over (we plan to remedy that someday). There are still windows at both ends, though, so we could put two bedrooms up there and each could have some windows (although actually second son hates heights so much he won't look through the attic windows anyhow!). A lot of the interior detail is gone (we know what some of it looked like because there's ONE piece left, tucked behind a corner on the stairs), and many of the front windows have been redone, so all-in-all ours is not as nifty as most of the ones you'll see on the Internet. But the tower rooms are still there, and there's a snazzy stair case (that needs major work) beside the kitchen and transom windows and other structural things like that, so I think it's nifty. It still pains me to compare it to what it once must have been ( ... )
