Those who don't share my religious beliefs pretty much might want to look away now, because this is entirely a Religious Rant, with Bible quotations and the whole nine yards. You have been warned

I have just skipped the quotes. I am still a Christian, though at the moment an inactive one, and I am sure that theologists of my church (the Protestant/Lutheran church of Germany, EKD, evangelische Kirche Deutschlands) would skip all these details too and say: "We must not interpret this verse about the rod literally. We look at the bible as a whole, and the bible's core is God's love. We don't take one single verse and interpret it literally. People then may have thought that spanking helps a child grow up healthily, but we know better now

Yah, I tried to format it so you could skip the Pearl quotes pretty easily and still get the gist. Tried not to overload it with Bible references, either, but, man, some of these things are so fundamental there are literally dozens of verses I could have offered

Unless it's been changed, in the U.S. prisoners have more protection against corporal punishment than school children.
Yes, and that's an easy rule to tell what's wrong when done to a child: If something is considered wrong if done to a grown-up it's wrong if done to a child too.
I once met a woman who was shut into the dark cellar for hours when she was a child. Hours in darkness, insects, no idea when she would get out. Probably this would be called torture if inflicted on adults - so it's definitely wrong if done to a child.
Seems that even in the foster care system these kids can't do much worse than at home.

But they get around that, y'see, by saying they "have" to do this to train the child to obey God, and if they were a child, they'd rather get spanked (beat, whatever) than go to hell

This is a group of what I call 'uber' fundy survivors. They have been through the physical abuse, Pearl and some have endured group homes. They are extremely angry as well.
I've been to the "stuff fundies like" blog before but hadn't realized there was a forum. I think parody and satire can be a healthy and healing approach sometimes.
The Facebook group is new to me but they're linking to a blog I know (Quivering Daughters). I had not realized that the Pearls were IFB. I guess I knew Gothard was, insofar as he's anything. I don't know if the "Independent" thing actually encourages abuse or if it just attracts abusers, but either way, they flock to it. Neither Gothard nor Pearl are interested in submitting to any form of authority or being held to a creed or any of that.
For that matter, Ezzo's been thrown out of three churches in a row, and at least two of them publicly declared him "unfit for Christian ministry." Funny how these guys recommend that parents totally control their kids, but they aren't willing or able to submit to any kind of pastoral authority...

This is a blog with an attached forum that handles the issues with parody and satire. They also take issue with the abuse issues.
I've been a part of these for about a year. They are for the most part Christian and would understand your anger completely.
