As sunlight peeked through the curtains, she found herself being awoken from her slumber. The warmth that wrapped around her waist and cradled her form made her feel at ease as she slowly opened her eyes.

Before her was the love of her life, the man who had stolen her heart so naturally that it was impossible for her to recall when it even started.

She watched the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed, still far from the land of the wake. It made her smile, the look of utter peace he had as he slept. He always had that serene expression on his face; it was one of the things she loves about the man, it made her feel safe.

He stirred a little as she reached out a hand and brushed his rumpled hair with her fingers, letting out a groan that was all too adorable for a grown man to make, before he buried his face against her neck, trying to keep himself from being completely awoken. She let out breathy chuckles as she continued with the activities of her hand, finally relenting when the man grunted for the second time.

Of course, it wasn’t her intention to wake him up if he clearly wants to sleep more. It was just fun to bug the man since she doesn’t get to wake up next to him enough. All the more so, when her heart was still fluttering just from the memories of last night’s encounter.

For the first time in the course of their whole relationship, Satoshi had asked her to come over for dinner. She had been to his house before, when they felt like watching DVDs together on the couch or just a brief visit that was more of letting the rain stop before she could go home. It was the same vice versa; Satoshi had been to her house a few times to drop her off. Ever since they started dating unofficially and even when things had become official, they always tended to have dinner in restaurants and bars. Homemade dinner is really new to them, which was really something Shoko never thought Satoshi would prepare for her.

It’s funny when she actually thinks about how things had led to this point.

Who would even suspect a homemade dinner from her boyfriend with such a simple message such as “I found some pudding in my fridge. Wanna come over? I’ll pick you up at the station.” It was really fortunate that Shoko didn’t think to eat anything before then, or else all the hard work Satoshi put into preparing their dinner would be wasted.

Her boyfriend was there to pick her up at the train station as promised, and surprisingly with a bouquet of lilies in hand. It made her wonder whether or not there was a special occasion she was forgetting, but she accepted the flowers happily and hooked her arm around Satoshi’s as they began their walk towards his home.

“What’s this for?” She asked, failing to hide her curiosity. She really couldn’t remember any special occasion to garner a lovely bouquet from her boyfriend. And to be honest, Satoshi didn’t seem like the type to give flowers.

Satoshi smiled at her, shrugging his shoulders to dismiss her questions. When a pout formed on her lips, he chuckled before finally providing some sort of answer. “I just felt like giving them to you.”

She let the pout on her lips change into a smile. It was an acceptable answer, sweet even. She could live with that.

“I thought we’re having pudding?” Shoko said as soon as she saw the already set table. Her boyfriend merely shrugged his shoulders.

The dinner Satoshi prepared was simple yet elegant, and Shoko was absolutely sure it would require a lot of effort on her part if she was the one to make it. Despite seeming like the perfect lady, she’s a terrible cook. It was precisely why she enjoys eating out, if only to save her from herself.

The moment Satoshi lit the candle at the center of the table, Shoko became nervous. It was weird, she was with Satoshi, there’s nothing new about that. Being with Satoshi wasn’t unusual, it’s comfortable; yet tonight, there was something different about everything.

Maybe it was the candle.

Her hand instinctively reached out for her other arm, trying to calm down the nerves as she peeked a look at Satoshi’s face.

“It’s kinda… romantic… If I knew it would be like this I would’ve have worn better clothes…” She attempted at words. When Satoshi didn’t respond, she chanced another look on the man. The look on his eyes although intense, was clearly affectionate and a gasp escaped her lips once he spoke, “You don’t need to change into anything else because I will always find you beautiful whatever you wear.”

“W-what’s with you today? Did you eat something weird?” She replied impulsively as she tried to hide her embarrassment. Satoshi doesn’t speak much but when he does, he always manages to take Shoko’s breath away with his words.

Satoshi shook his head in disagreement before he said with a mischievous smile, “It’s probably the candle.”

That comment he made got Shoko relaxed and laughing instantly. It was amazing how Satoshi could make her nervousness disappear in just seconds. Satoshi was the only one who could do that.

Once they finished with their meal and Shoko had drunk the remaining wine on her glass, Satoshi reached out for her hand on the table.

“Hmm?” She hummed expectantly.

“Shoko-chan, we’ve known each other for more than two years and I have never been as sure of myself as I am now.” His hold on her hand tightened and Shoko’s heart was beating so fast as she waited for Satoshi to continue what he was trying to say.

“I want to be with you forever.”

Satoshi brought out his other hand, presenting a small open box containing a shiny white gold ring embedded with a small diamond to her.

“Will you marry me, Shoko?”

It didn’t take long for Shoko to utter her “Yes.” and for Satoshi to reach out to her for an embrace. Satoshi’s happiness was unmistakable with the way he held Shoko so tight that she could feel him trembling.

In a matter of seconds, Satoshi pulled away, his hands gripping her arms before he leaned in for a passionate kiss.

Her cheeks flushed as she remembered what happened after that.

The sheets rustled as the man beside her stirred into wakefulness. “Good morning, Shoko-chan.” He said, before pressing his lips against her for a good morning kiss.

If she was going to wake up everyday with this man beside her like this, Shoko had no doubt that she would be happy for the rest of her life.
