why I dumped FaceBook

for starters, I don't give a flying rat's ass if someone is in a coffee shop, nor do I need to hear once again that it is COLD outside. (i know, i know!) but what it all boils down to is captured magnificently by xkcd. Be sure to read the hover text, almost always my favorite part ( Read more... )

RIGHT NOW I am totally in a coffee shop and damn, is it cold outside! I also just iced a contractor in Mafia Wars, unearthed a crypt in Vampire Wars, sent you a beating heart with iHeart, and just found a lonely sheep on my farm; do you want to adopt it??

Oh, have you tried http://lite.facebook.com ? It seems to be just status updates, photos, and links, without all the random applications, ads, etc. Plus, commenters' photos don't appear, so the whole thing just looks much cleaner and more minimal.

it just seems so dissatisfying, after reading *real* information here about how folks are doing. I like the narrative. I like to know what's going on in everyone's lives, and I don't get that from FB. (I hate it less since I started blocking all the apps. I don't see anyone's farms, wars, gifties, etc. That helps)

I loved that one. Particularly since that is exactly what that app has been doing lately.

The comments for the RSS feed were disturbing though, please asked questions like, "Why does Facebook always tell me to that with the people I don't like?"

If you don't like them, why are they your friend on Facebook? Keep your friends close and your enemies on your social network?

I don't care enough about FB to defriend or refuse requests from anyone I actually know. (with only 2 exceptions that I can think of) There's almost no info there about me, and what is there is hidden from anyone I haven't approved. I don't post status updates anymore either. Part of my pared down life...
