I could go on and on about how silly Avatar was, and how it's really just another somewhat insulting manifestation of this phenomenon, and about how, really, I have NEVER seen so many cliches packed into less than three hours--

Buuuut, I had zero expectations since a few of you amply warned me. If you want to see this movie, I'd definitely recommend ( Read more... )

Its a shame, the movie is one of the best visuals pieces out there, but you can guess the entire plot without even seeing it.

Good luck on your trip~

Yeah. It's... no more than eyeporn. They spent all that money on making it look good and yet couldn't have spent some extra time and energy on making the plot non-assy, but whatever.

Thank you! It was fairly uneventful.

This seems to be how everyone I know online feels about Avatar.

I didn't like it too much. For me, the basis and awesomeness of any piece of media revolves around the story. The story was a huge downer, and it dragged down the whole film with it. It was just decent enough not to send the whole movie spiraling down. The visuals were fantastic, but it only allowed for the film to be lesser end of okay for me.

I just couldn't believe my friends actually thought it was "so good" and one of their favorite movies. They couldn't stop talking about it.

Ugh. Just because you're visually appealing, action-heavy, and effects-heavy, doesn't mean you have to have a shit-tastic story. The recent James Bond movies did pretty - I would argue very - well with the script. Star Trek wasn't deep, but it had a balanced, careful, and entertaining story without lacking in thoroughness. Avatar, though...ughhhhh...

The Mighty Whitey thing bothers me too. On top of being unoriginal, it's so heavy-handed in those Native American/indigenous stereotypes. (ALSO TV TROPES OMG I LOVE THAT PLACE I WASTE MY TIME FAR TOO MUCH

I agree. I couldn't really get into it because I felt as if I'd seen that movie about forty times and hated every instance of it. I mean, the movie itself is bearable, but only due to how it looked. That's a bad sign ( ... )

See? This is why I have no interest in seeing Avatar. It looks like a stereotypical steaming pile of trope and everyone I know who has seen it has said the exact same thing. It's good you enjoyed it, though.

Go get some sleep: travel always leaves me feeling beat down too, so I can't blame you for being worn out.
