About three years, ago, maybe a little more (see juvenile glee post here: ). At first, just because I thought that the whole 'when a girl slaps you it = love' thing was funny. I think it was when I started taking more interest in Orihime's character that I started to pay more attention to their relationship. I became a rabid shipper on the UlquiHime FC on BA.
2. What I think their challenge is:
Obviously, that they're two such different people. Then that, well, one of them isn't even a person, per se. There's no way these two are going to end up together (although I won't say 'never', because Kubo Tite is a wonderful, magical manga-ka...). I feel that Ulquiorra represents a piece of Hime, something vital to her growth, more than a viable love interest. I'd say their canon challenge is empathy and understanding for one another, which they've overcome, a little bit (despite Ulquiorra's best attempts to the contrary). As a fanfic writer, the greatest challenge would be for them to actually 'get ( ... )

When I started reading Ouran, it was more of a casual, I-don't-remember-all-the-characters'-names thing. But I liked Tamaki and Haruhi. I guess I became interested in the possibility of a love triangle after the bed/merit scene, and I started looking into it, and then got crazy with love for them.
2. What I think their challenge is:
They both care so deeply for Tamaki that I don't see how they could put him aside to see each other. It's the whole best-friend dating your friend thing. Also, despite their differences, they have some very big differences - both are calm, practical people, but he's heartless where she's heartfelt, deceitful where she's honest, calculated where she's carefree (rich where she's poor, too). Finally, they both obviously respect one another, and even like one another, but they don't really hang out that often ( ... )

I have to say I agree with you on almost all the things you said about this pairing. But don't worry, things get better for them. Plus, I am eagerly expecting to see what the Encore will do for them, so... Keep your fingers crossed~ :3
