Present time

He looked around. Everything looked the same as two years ago, but yet it felt so different. He rubbed his chest, soothing the familiar ache inside. An ache that never failed to come as his constant reminder for what he had done two years ago.

‘Where are you now? Did you remember me? Did you… still love me?’ silently he crunched his sweater, at the place where his heart was. Felt his heart beating faster and a tear threaten to roll.

“OPPA!!!!” a beautiful girl shouted, “JINKI OPPA… over hear….”

“Tae….” Jinki pulled the girl on tight embrace. “You looked…. happy?” Two years ago, when Jinki left the pretty one, she looked sad and brokenhearted. But his own shattered heart screamed for leaving and forgetting; therefore he departed, leaved his dejected little sister behind.

“I am happy Oppa…” a beautiful smile crossed her face while she pulled a handsome man to Jinki’s sight.

“What is he doing here?” Jinki immediately shot an angry glared to the man then moved his eyes to Taeyeon, demanding an explanation.

“We now are together again, Oppa.” Jinki couldn’t believe his ears. This man, this handsome playboy was the reason that he had to leave Seoul.

“What? Why? How?”

“Hyung… let me explain… we need to talk…” Jonghyun bowed his head. He knew he made mistakes; a lot of them. And he never proud on what he had done, but he loved Taeyeon. He would do everything to keep her by his side.

“Fine…” suddenly Jinki just felt tired. Looking at the lover made him devastated. What he had done two years ago, the sorrow that blanketed him these past years were for nothing. Revenge never be a sweet thing.

They sat on Starbuck. Three cups of hot toffee nut latte were sitting at the table. Jinki just stared at his cup when Taeyeon and Jonghyun started their story.

“Three years ago, I saw Jonghyun at the first time. He sang at my college musical event. I liked him and started to find a way to know him. It wasn’t long for us to start dating. We are happy… I thought; we are happy.” Taeyeon told her story and continued, “What I failed to know was, Jonghyun … Jonghyun was still not sure about his feeling; about us.”

“Hyung, I did a lot of things that I never proud off. I cheated on Tae. I mocked her by hugging and kissing other girls for her to see. The truth was; I was afraid. I was afraid to lose my sanity every time she was around. I was afraid to be dependent to her. At that time, all I wanted was her to get out from my live. I want to be the master of my live. On my stupid mind, she made me vulnerable. But, I always love her. Once she left, I realized that I need her.” Jonghyun continued the story.

“And you accepted him back to your live at that moment?” Jinki remembered how miserable his little sister when her boyfriend cheated.

“No,” Taeyeon smiled at her over protective big brother. “We just started dating for 6 months now. So it took more than a year for Jjongie to prove himself.”

Jinki sternly looked at Jonghyun and said, “If you dare… if you even try to make her cry again, you’ll die.”

“I love her, Hyung. I will never make her cry anymore,” Jonghyun made his promise. Then he looked at Jinki, something bothering his mind. “Hyung… did you remember my sister, Gwibonnie?”

Jinki startled at the name. “She…she is your little sister, right? How is she?” Jinki stuttered.

“I know what you did to her, Hyung.” Quietly Jonghyun added, “I know you pretended to love her to get back for what I did to Tae.” Jonghyun looked straight at Jinki’s eyes. “The question is, did you pretend, Hyung, or did you ever love her?”

“It’s not important. She is happy now, right? She can easily replace me with other guy. So it’s not really important anymore.”

Flashback

He looked at her little sister who sat, crawled her feet near the window. Her little body looked fragile, her eyes were empty, and her eye’s bags were big and dark. All the beauty and cheer were gone from her live. He stroked her hair. It’s dulled. She never dressed-up and went out. For weeks, what she did was sat in front of the window, not even bother to talk and she barely ate.

‘I will make a revenge for what he did to you. I will make his little sister feel what you feel right now,’ silently he made a promise while stroking his sister’s hair.

He made his plan carefully. He spied on her for days now. He knew where she lived, where she studied, who her friends were, what she liked, and where she hanged out. He even had made his first moved. Paying a friend to pretend harassing her and he’s shown up like a shining armor.

He smiled contently, ‘No one failed for my charm.’ Looking at the mirror, he satisfied from the image staring back at him. Today was their first date.

“Hi Oppa,” a beautiful cheery girl popped-up in front of him while he read the menu. They promised to meet at this restaurant. She wanted to treat him some lunch for saving her from some jackass. ‘Yah… save your ass from me little lady’, silently he smirked.

“Hi Gwiboon-ssi. Please sit down. I hope this table is okay with you,” politely he stood up and helped her pushed her chair. ‘Off course this table will be okay. This is the best table on this restaurant. A huge tip was needed to get this table.’

“Yes, this table is nice and thank you Oppa…. Hhhmmmm, and please call me Gwiboon,” she smiled beautifully at him.

It immediately sent a pang through his heart. ‘No Jinki, you cannot fell for her. What you hear out there was true. She is a playgirl who just likes her filthy brother; keep on making boys heart broken. Her smile is poisonous.’ he gripped his hands tightly under the table while a smile plastered on his face. “So you should call me Jinki, instead. Ok then Gwiboonie, let’s order.”

She’s chuckled on her nickname. Yes, he knew it’s her nickname. His expensive source gave all the necessary information that he needed just like this one, “I wanna eat chicken enchiladas and this restaurant makes the best enchiladas in town.” He looked straight to her eyes. She looked… thrilled…

“You like enchiladas? It’s my favorite food, that’s why I asked you to meet me here.” She clasped her hands together and laughed. ‘Bingo…’

“Ooohhh … you like to eat here? Why did we never meet before?” Jinki asked. This restaurant was one of his favorite and he was a frequent customer here. This table was automatically has his name reserved on it.

“I did… I did remember seeing you before,” Gwiboon looked down, hiding her blush.

He felt something funny crawling on his stomach while looking at the girl’s beautiful red face. ‘Can a playgirl blush? She’s a good actress then.’

“Oh really?”

Suddenly everything flew naturally between them. He did all his charms to lure Gwiboon. To be honest, it isn’t hard. He just needed to be on his best natural side and Gwiboon accepted him happily. First date followed with second one then third one then forth one and many dates. Jinki never confessed anything to her, but he knew that she already fallen hard for him. No, he would never confess. That’s his first plan. He would make her wanted him, clung herself to him. When she couldn’t live without him, he would leave. Leaved her like her brother leaved his sister. Revenged would be sweet. And today he would play the final part of this drama.

“Gwiboonie, will you meet me at the park … hmmmm in an hour,” Jinki called her.

“Which park?” Gwiboon eagerly replied. Today she would make Jinki confess. If he wouldn’t confess first, she would. They’ve been dating for weeks now. They even kissed twice. She blushingly touched her lips. Her lips weren’t a virgin anymore. She had her first kiss and she loved the man who kissed her.

“Our park, off course.” It’s a park near the Mexican restaurant that they ate as their first date. They loved to sit on a bench under a big oak tree. They even crafted their initial on that tree. “Don’t forget to bring umbrella, Gwiboonie. And use your thick coat; I think it’ll be raining soon.”

“Ok. See you there.” A big grin formed on Gwiboon’s beautiful face. She missed Jinki so much; it’s been two weeks now from their last meeting. Jinki was out of town for some company’s matter, so their conversation was limited to short phone calls.

Gwiboon arrived ten minutes earlier from their said schedule. She was too devastated to wait at home and decided to just go to the park. Smiling happily, she traced her long fingers along the crafted initial.

The ten minutes was gone but Jinki still wasn’t shown-up. Then it became 30 minutes, 45 minutes and 1 hour. The rain was pouring heavily. Gwiboon was shivering under her umbrella, refused to leave. She tried to contact Jinki for no success. She was so worried and really wanted to go to his house. But suddenly her phone’s ringing with special tone that assign only for his number.

“Jinki? Where are you? What’s happen?” worries cooled her heart.

“Gwiboon-ssi, I will not come. “ Jinki’s voice sounded so weird in Gwiboon’s ears. It’s sounded like he talked to a stranger.

“Jinki…” Gwiboon plead.

“Listen, I know you like me. But I don’t like you. I despise you! I despise you and your brother! Your brother made my sister suffered, so I made you suffer as a pay. So tell me, how about that, Kim Gwiboon?” Gwiboon could listen to the cynical laugh that Jinki’s made.

“What? I tought… I tought you liked me…” tears were rolled on her face.

Jinki laughed at her naïve statement. “Nope. Never. I made you liked me. I made you…. love me! So tell me Gwiboon-ssi. You love me, don’t you?”

“Yes, I love you. Please don’t do this, Jinki. I know you like me. I don’t know what Jjong did to your sister, but I am not him. Please Jinki, we can sort this thing out.” Gwiboon plead and plead. For once in her live, she forgot about her pride. Her love to Jinki made her wanted to crawl and beg.

“Hahaha… you are so easy to trap, little mouse. You can’t resist when a man said No, don’t you. I tell you what, Ms. Kim. Not all man will crawl and beg for your love. I don’t!” Jinki mocked her again. “So go tell your brother, how your heart feels now. Let big bro knows what he had done to my little sister.” Then he snapped his phone.

Gwiboon couldn’t believe if that was real. Her umbrella was long forgotten, her feet started to walk by their own. Rain was soaking her coat and dress. Her careful make-up smeared with rain and tears. Her hair plastered to the sculp. But she didn’t care. A tiny hope grew stubbornly in her heart. Hoping Jinki would show-up and told her that this was only a joke, that he loved her as she loved him. But there’s nobody came. Her phone was deadly silent. For the first time she felt in love and heartbroken on the next second.

Present time

“It’s not important. She is happy now, right? She can easily replace me with other guy. So it’s not really important anymore.”

“It’s matter, Hyung. It does matter.” Jonghyun answered back.

“Why?” Jinki looked confused. Did he love Gwiboon? He does always love her. The love that he never planted was persistently grew bigger and eating his live daily as a constant reminder.

__________

Flashback

“So go tell your brother, how your heart feels now. Let big bro knows what he had done to my little sister.” Then Jinki snapped his phone and throw the gadget away. He closed his face with both hands; tears were creeping down as he balled his body in tight self-embrace.

‘I did the right thing. I just did the right thing. She will suffer for a while, but tomorrow she will forget. She will meet other guy who adore her, who willingly ask even beg for her love.’ Jinki rocked his body, tried to find comfort.

But her cried on the phone sent thousands stabs to his heart. ‘Why did she cry like that? Did she love me that much? But we barely knew each other. I knew I love her, but she is a player, doesn’t she? So she can’t love me like I love her.’

____________

Present time

“She loves you, Oppa. You might not know her back then, but what you failed to notice was I knew Jjong through her. She’s my best friend. She was also the one who told me that Jjong cheated on me. And she also the one who helped me to accept Jjong back when she’s sure that Jjong really loves me.” Taeyeon smiled at his big brother. “She set her eyes on you years before. I believe it’s when we still in high school. But you never notice my friends, don’t you? Yeah, who will hang out with crazy teenagers like us?” Taeyeon took Jinki’s hands and held them tight. “And as I know my own brother, you love her, don’t you? You loved her from the beginning. That’s why you left.”

“She’s never happy again, Hyung. She loves you so much, so when you left, she changed. She never laughs again.” Jonghyun added.

“But why? She has lot of friends. Guys were always all over her at that time,” Jinki confused. A tiny hope started to grow but he pushed it aside as he did for this last two years.

“Oh they tried Hyung; but never succeed. She was an ice princess. She never felt in love before you. You are her first and only love.” Jonghyun blew his breath heavily. What he had done made people that he loved, suffered.

“I am her first love? My God, I hurt her deeply, didn’t I?”

“It isn’t too late Oppa. Go find her,” Taeyeon patted his shoulder.

“She always goes to that park, near the Mexican restaurant down town. Do know that place, Hyung?” Jonghyun asked him.

“Yes,” Jinki closed his eyes. ‘She still goes to that park. They said; she still loves me. But, will she let me back? I hurt her too deeply.’

“I have to go.” Jinki jumped from his chair. A content smile formed in his mouth. ‘At least, I will try. I plea, I beg, hack I will crawl if necessary.’

“Good luck,” both Jonghyun and Taeyeon sent their blessed.

It’s started to rain when Jinki arrived at the park, as nature want him to recreate that moment.

Jinki found her contact number on his phone. After those years, he never had a heart to delete it.

“Ha..hallo… who is it?” Gwiboon couldn’t believe when her eyes read the name on her phone. ‘Jinki. Is it really you? I must be dreaming.’

“Gwiboonie, it’s me, Jinki. Can we talk? I want to ask you something.” From his hiding place, Jinki looked at the skinny girls. She looked beautiful as ever but also fragile and sad. He cursed himself for suffering her this much.

“Jinki… I can’t” Gwiboon could feel her tears started to pour.

“Why?”

“I need… I need to forget you.” Gwiboon couldn’t hide her cried anymore. This was too much. All these years, she tried to forget her love but it grew bigger and bigger. Even the voice of Jinki made her stumbled again. She wanted to forget, she even wish she could hate him so she can erase her love.

“But I don’t want you to forget.” Suddenly Jinki was standing in front of her. She jumped to her feet, looked at the man that she loved most. She clenched her fists, restrained herself from hugging him. She missed him dearly. So she did what she thought was right, she turned around and started to run. Forgot about the rain that pouring down hard; left behind her umbrella.

But her weak feet refused to run far; her tired body defeated her. Before she felt to the wet ground, strong arms were circling her waist tightly. Her back pulled to warm chest and she felt Jinki’s face nuzzled her neck. It felt so good, it felt so right. Her knees lost their strength. What she could do was leaning back to the man behind her. Letting the rain pouring their body and tears rolling her face, but for the first time in two years, she felt warm.

“I love you.” Jinki kissed her neck up to her jaw and to the corner of her lips.

“I love you… please Jinki, don’t leave me. Promise me you won’t leave me.” Gwiboon turned around and held Jinki’s neck while burying her face on his chest.

“I won’t leave you, baby. I love you. I will always love you.” Jinki held Gwiboon to face him and slowly kissed her. .
