Summary: An angel came from heaven and spend 2 weeks with Jinki and granting Jinki’s biggest wish he have in life.
He dragged himself up the narrow stairways. It’s about 2 weeks before Christmas, he was already starting to work like a dog. He opened the door to his small apartment that he rent, felt thankful he’s finally home. He plopped himself on the single bed. The moment his head rested comfortably on the pillow, he fall asleep almost immediately. He didn’t notice at all, the white glowing figure that was smiling at the side.
Jinki was waked up the food aroma that was lingering in the air. It’s been a long time since he last ate homemade food, about one year after someone’s death. He never tried dating with someone else neither did he tried forgetting it. He just left that empty space in his heart to fill with the lonesome air... He crawled out of his blanket, following the smell to the kitchen.
The aroma was familiar as if he was there cooking for him once again, but reality would never allow such things to happen. He saw an unknown figure busying cooking in the kitchen. There were wings behind his back spread beautifully. The person turned around with a cheerful grin on his face. The smile that he lost a year ago…
“Good morning, Jinki!” The man greeted, making the older man gasped disbelievingly.
“I’m Key, your angel until Christmas.” He introduced himself as he was floating a few inches from the ground. The smile that Jinki thought he had lost was back… He pulled the angel’s hands, making him moved closer to him. He wrapped a hand around his waist tightly, another hand wrapped around his shoulder.
“You’re back, Kibum…”He murmured softly only audible for the both of them to hear. The angel pushed the human boy away, staring confusingly at him.
“I’m not Kibum… I’m Key.” Jinki traced along the jaw of his face, exactly like his dead lover… But why the angel was saying he’s not Kibum?
“How long have you been dead?” he questioned, still not letting go the grip on the angel.
“Well, about a year now.” He calculated with his fingers, before answering.
“How did you died?” It was the most important question. Key cracked his head to think but not a single scene of his death was played in his mind…
“I… I don’t know.” Jinki felt elated at first but soon flood with pain. He was happy that heaven was returning his Kibum to him but pain as Kibum doesn’t remember him and he’s gone after Christmas.
“Thank you!” He thanked his last customer with that gleeful smile. He closed his counter and placed the signboard which says, ‘Next Counter Please’ before leaving. It was his lunch break now, he grabbed his wallet still thinking what to get for lunch.
“Jinki hyung, someone is looking for you over there.” One of his friends working there pointed the staircase. Jinki made his way to the enclose staircase, the moment he opened the door, he was sitting there with a bento.
“Jinki!” His face brightens up almost immediately when his eyes fall on the human. Jinki went to sit down with Key and a bento was then placed on his lap.
“I made it especially for you.” A smiled slowly spread across his face. It’s been a long time since someone willing to spend their own time on him. He saw something red on Key’s hands; he grabbed his hands just to see it clearly. It was bruises. Key quickly pulled his hands away, not wanting Jinki to stare at it any longer.
“What happened?” Jinki frowned as he pulled Key’s long selves up to find even more bruise.
“I’m still not used to walking, so I kept falling on my way here.” He looked down guiltily as he never wanted Jinki to be worried for him.
“Whatever it is, it’s Onew Sangtae.” He sang cheerful as he teased the older male.
“I can’t help it, this is how my body works.” Jinki retaliate to the joke.
Jinki didn’t say anything more and left him alone. Key felt dejected at first but soon changed the moment Jinki came back with a first aid kit in his hand. Jinki addressed to his wound as Key obediently sat still.
“Why didn’t you poof yourself here?” Key gave a small smile and shrugged.
Key sat down in the same place, waiting for Jinki to finish his work. Since Key’s work right now was to keep Jinki accompanied until Christmas, he has a lot of time. He stared at spaces, stoning as time passes by. The door swing opened, Jinki stood there.
“We can go now.” Key nodded excitedly before he stood up to follow Jinki’s step but to find himself losing balance. He thought he was going to kiss the ground for the fifth time today but a pair of strong arm has already wrapped around him. Jinki helped Key to regain his balance before bending down.
“I’ll carry you home.” Key flushed in pink as Jinki piggyback him.
“I’m not drunk! I still can drink!”Jinki nodded as if he agrees that Key still could drink when he’s clearly drunk.
“I know, let’s go home, Kibum.” He let his lover’s hands hung over his shoulder but to find even more difficulties in walking. He shook his head as he knows if they continue walking at this rate, they would never be able to reach home.
“I’ll piggyback you home.” Jinki lowered his body so that Kibum can easily hold on to him.
After having chicken again for dinner, Key started clearing up the plates. Jinki sat there looking at Key cleaning up, he couldn’t help himself but to think about Kibum again… More like imagining Kibum was still here…
“Jinki, you have a Christmas wish. It’s a wish that every angel will have to give the human they pair up with. Do you have anything in mind?” Jinki shook his head.
“You have the wish until Christmas before it somehow expires.” Jinki nodded. He doesn’t need anything right now, because all he ever wanted was here with him already…
It’s already a week that Key has stepped into Jinki’s world. Jinki hasn’t spent much time with Key but somehow their feelings for each other grow deeper every day. Today Jinki finally had gotten himself a day off. Key thought of letting Jinki have some rest but Jinki insisted on bringing him out to see the world.
Jinki specially prepared a set of clothes for Key, the clothes that Kibum wore before… The clothes that Kibum liked... They both went out shopping like a normal couple would normally do… Jinki really felt as if Kibum was back with him… But... The angel would also correct him that he’s Key.
“Kibum, I think it would look good on you.” He took one of the shirts from the rack.
“It’s Key, not Kibum.”
The human boy brought the angel to the place where he and his lover have a lot of shared memories. Key was running along the shore like a little kid. He doesn’t know why but coming to the beach, his heart felt free and warm. Suddenly he stood still at a spot, gazing at the beautiful orange sunset. The sun dyed the clouds nearby into orange. Jinki made his way slowly behind Key, watching how his wing spread out.
Some of his fallen feather glides down slowly in air, landed on his face lightly.
Key was curious about human activity, more for the fact he was curious about what Jinki do every night.
“It’s called Sleeping, Key.” Key titled his head still not knowing how it was done. Jinki smiled and used this opportunity as chance to get close to Key. He lied on the bed, signaling Key to rest his head on his arms. Key rested his head and looked in Jinki’s eyes, waiting for the so called sleeping action to get in him.
“Close your eyes.” Key listened and shut his eyes. A soft humming sound was heard, it was humming some lullaby.
Kibum pulled himself closer to Jinki, resting his head on his chest. Jinki caress his soft silky hair, humming to their love song. Your name.
Key moved himself and leaned his head on his chest, his hands wrapped around the older male. Jinki only grinned and wrapped his arms around the angel.
It was Christmas today, Key was flipping around, opening drawers to find Jinki’s lost watch. He was searching it in Jinki’s room, finding a drawer locked. He knows that invading privacy is a nono, but he just couldn’t help himself to at least take a peek.
He uses magic to open the drawer, he saw a photo album, diary and a ring. He was hoping for Jinki’s embarrassing childhood photos in the photo album. The moment he flipped to the first page, he almost dropped the album.
It was a photo of him and Jinki.
He looked and examined closely, it’s not edited at all.
“Key, did you…” His voice died down the moment he saw the photo album that he was hiding from Key was on his hands.
“What is this?” Key voice was trembling. Jinki didn’t utter a single word and walked to his side. He leaned down a little to kiss his icy cold lips.
“Sorry. I can’t remember it at all.” Key apologized again for the nth today. It was going midnight soon, Key still couldn’t get over the fact the know Jinki before he became an angel.
“It’s okay.” He ruffles his hair affectionately. Key doesn’t know why every time he tried to think of the past, his memories seemed as if it was locked in a box. He just couldn’t remember anything.
“Christmas is almost over, Jinki… Do you have any wish in mind?” Jinki nodded, the one and only wish he has right now.
“I wish that Kibum would be back by my side.” The moment he ended his sentence, bright light shone out from Key. A flash of light, Key was gone along with it. Only a feather landed on his hands.
His wish still never came true.
The next morning arrives with irritating knocking sound and ringing sound. Jinki got up feeling annoyed but still made his way to the door. He wanted to shout at the person who was at the door, but words choke in his throat immediately as he saw him standing there.
“I’m back Jinki.” He doesn’t need any explanation or confirmation, he hugged the younger boy tightly in his arms, not wanting to let go. Kibum was there, he was right there… Kibum was finally back by his side…
His Christmas wish came true after all.
