I know of 5 people whose ipods have died and required servicing within 12 months of purchase.
Most of these people do acknowledge that they would recharge the battery after it had only run down a little, when really you should let it run down all the way before recharging.

I personally have a Creative Zen Touch. It holds 20GB and I am not even halfway through filling it.
I've only ever had two problems with my Zen.
1) It froze one day and wouldn't switch off. I found out that it doesn't like it when I queue up too much music at once. It freaks out.
2) I had a FM Radio/Mic recorder/remote attachment. It stopped working and fell to pieces. I believe this to have been the result of me wrapping the remote cord around and around the zen and bashing it about in my handbag.

Don't buy into the ipod hype. be realistic about what you want the mp3 player to do and research other brands as well.

I love my iPod. Yes, the battery situation is a bit tricky. It kept dying after about 6 months...so I got it replaced. They come with a 12 month warranty, so you can just get a new free one. But then when you get the new one...you don't get a new 12 month warranty. You have to buy one for $99. So I reckon it's going to keep costing me $99 a year, because I'm going to keep renewing the warranty and getting new ones. So yeah, I love my iPod and if it was stolen or something I'd still buy a new one.
That said, I have no idea about the functions of other mp3 players...so I'm sure they probably do the same shit as an iPod.
I don't know if that helps? But the point of it is...yes they fuck up...but I would still get another one, because they are awesome. Don't get a Nano though...apparently they're the worst.

my battery is constantly running out, but I still love it. dancing_beast June 20 2006, 01:05:52 UTC
I have had no end of trouble with my i-pod this morning it was telling me "no battery power remains, please connect ipod to charger" I fucking charged it last night!!!!!

ALTHOUGH!!! the format is easy to use and understand, I have used apple computers all my life so I don't think I could get another mp3 player,

Because of the battery problems, Im starting to think I myte have to get a new one, I would still buy another ipod regardless of the trouble's I've had with mine.

dont get an ipod - they suck. i had 8000 songs, 10 movies, a hole season of seinfeld and all my photos of my family that i took at the airport before i left and now they are gone. the man said it was fixed and it is not. sometimes the music jumbles or the vocal is missing from a track, or i just get vocal and drums - its ramdom and it sucks. dont get one.

I have one and it's battery sucked so I sent away to get new one sent out, but then after two days of recieving my new one. it shat it self as well......so in my opinion I would probably not get one, or I would at least look around see what is out there first....my opinion as always been with the ipods that apple spent more money on advertising that testing the product!
