Chicago is really fun! And there are always, it seems, deals on the big downtown hotels in The Loop area. Shopping the Magnificent Mile is always fun. And Grant Park at the lake with the Cloud Gate (bean) sculpture and the Frank Gehry designed concert venue.

Oak Park is the suburb with a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Good memory- I did their iPod rental walking tour. The official site is at gowright.org

The Architectural society also does walking and boat tours right downtown. I did the walking tour long ago. There are some really great old architecture buildings in Chicago if you like that type of thing.

Are you taking about Hot Doug's, encased meat emporium? :) It was pretty groovy, especially if you really like hot dog gourmet variety.

Both those places we got to with rental car, though Chicago has the great Metro, and can probably link with buses if the Metro is too far from those burby places.
