"Do you know what's worth fighting for, when its not worth dying for?"

So I was up late last night, as I am usually, and I caught a program on PBS called Japanland about some white woman who was walking around/doing Japanese stuff. It was pretty cool and gave me an idea for a vacation I want to take someday in the future ( Read more... )

I was thinking kind of the same thing about walking around Japan recently. Mostly because I got my Hiroshige books back from Joe and thought it would be cool to walk one of the roads that he depicted stations from. Not for the finding something aspect that you mentioned, but just because I'd like to see the landscapes he depicted and how they look 170+ years later. It would unfortunately cost a lot of money for lodging though, unless I wanted to be really hardcore and sleep in a tent along the way (I don't really want to be that hardcore, at least not for the entirety of one of those national roads.)

Take heart that even with the recession the US is in a better position now than it has been in the last 7 years. Domestic political craziness is just the defeated howling at the wind, and internationally there has been a great deal of improvement in pretty much every aspect. It's just the beginning of a good time to be in politics and IR.

I really want to walk Japan, the rural countryside, to see what its like there. You've been to one Japanese megaopolis like Tokyo or Osaka, they're all the same. I want to explore the old roads and the small villages where a salaryman is nowhere to be seen.
Also, such a grueling and long hike and the hard work that comes along with it purifies the body and mind. While I imagine that I'd go days along the roads having to camp in a tent, I'd like to stop a the ryokans and explore the towns for a couple of days (less if nothings there) and learn about the local people.
I dont usually hike or camp, but to go from place to place without having to worry about a destination seems fascinating to me.

Politics, I wish I can say the same thing about liking it.

Maybe it's because I'm not well verse in it but all I see is a bunch of B.S. that just goes round and round. And there always seems like the choices you make either put you into the Democrat or Republican side of things with no middle ground.

BTW: what make and year is the laptop you have? I was just curious because I wanted to know which are good laptops and which are bad.
