so, as those of you who read xtine and/or russ's ljs know, i went to a concert this past saturday. went to see the mighty mighty bosstones live with xtine, russ, and chris (friend from R). it's kinda long, hence the lj-cut.
ok, keep in mind i've only been to a few concerts before, all of which were in jpn and with the exception of 1 (ikimonogakari), were all jpop singers. aka pretty mild concerts.
I've only heard the mighty mighty bosstones a couple times in xtine's car when we were in college...never d/led songs or bought cds. she invited me about two weeks back to go to this concert, and i said, hell, why not? invited russ along too. i had no expectations of this concert whatsoever.
so sat came around and we met up with xtine and chris in line in front of the avalon theatre in la. xtine had gotten in line a couple mins before we got there - an hour before the show. as she's a huge fan of these guys, she wanted to get to the very front of the mosh pit. russ, chris, and i just followed along since we didnt really care either way haha.
while we were waiting for the doors to open, these guys came around tagging everyone who was 21+ with wristbands...the four of us qualified, but the two groups in front of us and behind us didn't. i felt like i was making up for concerts i missed out on in hs. hahaha.
so 1 hour (and half a water bottle of vodka for xtine) later, the doors opened and we rushed our way in. managed to secure front row spots. the place was smaller than i had expected and initially it didnt look like there were too many ppl coming. but once 30 mins went by, it started to fill out.
another half an hour later, and the show started. openers were the pietasters and street dogs. like russ, i found myself jiving to the street dogs overall as it's more my type of music (punk ska).
when the street dogs came on, i managed to worm my way to the front next to xtine as well (she had gotten a nice spot right up against the "fence" thingy). russ and chris got a bit lost in the crowd behind us, but not too far back. that's when the crowd started getting a lil crazier. ppl were starting to push a bit more, but i thought, eh, it wasnt as bad as i had thought a "mosh pit" would be.
And then the bosstones came on. and the crowd went batshit insane. it was crazy. i had myself braced against the metal bar/fence thingy the whole time as people danced/jumped/shoved against me. it felt like 1/3rd of the time i was checking out the bass player's fingers/fingering, 1/3rd of the time i was watching the lead singer, and the last 1/3rd was trying to get enough room between my ribs and the bar so i could breathe ahahaha.
people started to crowd surf too. and since i was in the front, it was especially painful since ppl start to see that the "surfer" is near the front and just kinda loose strength/toss them towards the security dudes that were standing behind the fence. the security dudes would lift the surfers from the crowd as best as they cold and then escort them around the fence to join in with the audience again. after a warning from xtine and a body rolling off my neck, i learned to watch the security ppl's fingers as they pointed to oncoming crowdsurfers. some insane chick surfed with HIGH HEELS on. it scrapped my hand before i realized what it was. russ was screaming "Watch out for your eyes!!!" hahaha.
i didnt know any of the songs let alone any of the members of the band, but i was right there next to them. they kept coming out really close to the fence and i kinda...uh...poked? the lead singer once just cuz he was right there and i was like "hey! i can touch him!" ahaha. danced to the beat and mouthed along with the chorus when i could.
ears were "numb" to sound after the show haha. yeah. overall, it was one hell of a crazy experience. wasnt so bad that i was afraid that i'd get mauled by some crazily dancing neighbor's hands, but wasnt by any means jpns ppl waving their glowsticks with the beat in one direction ahaha.
can't wait till march 13th - the pillows is having a concert! yeah, baby!
So...in everyday normal life...what am i up to?
still at 72. will be here till april at least (wait, where have i heard this before?). started to work with xtine on my website which i'm super excited about having up soon (hopefully) haha. it'd be nice to finally have a working portfolio.
been practicing karaoke with cam and brian as well. dunno if i mentioned it here, but we're thinking about maybe trying out the AX karaoke competition in july. ahahahaha. we (and by "we" i mean "i" hahaha) need a lot of work, but it was one of those "hell, why not? it'll be fun!" things again hahahaha. we'll see how that goes.
been planning on going to taiwan/japan in june as well with thy, tom, russ, and the rest of my family. my gramp's throwing this huge bday party in june, so we all have to head back there anyways...which was where jpn came in (hey, it's so close, why not?) excited about that as well...hopefully everything works out.
and other than those things...been playing a ton of tales of abyss. my latest rpg obsession. for those that know/care, been working on the coliseum (singles advanced matches) for everyone's weapons/titles. got luke, natalia, guy, and jade's done...gonna do anise and tear's. which i'll prolly just do tonight. with our uh....currently 90+ lvls, it's starting to get easy haha. wanna do group matches soon. there's this crazy elite team (composed of characters of previous tales games) that i want to fight. i hear it's at least a 20min battle ahahaha (but then again, not sure what lvl these guys were playing it at). up for it guys? ;] eventually i guess. we gotta fight neblium soon guyssssss (we can steal +5 almost everything c-core from him ;D)
yesh. hope you have enjoyed your extra large serving of louise's current life.
