So I started following CNN.com a while ago to try to keep up on current news, you know, now that I don't have easy access to a paper and all. I realized a few weeks ago that I didn't feel like I was getting a lot of information, or, well, news. I couldn't really put my finger on what was wrong, I mean, CNN has a much better rep than, say, FOX. ( Read more... )

I think that article's a bit flaky, but I agree and have always preferred the BBC.

I actually prefer google news. You d have to know whats going on with the format though.

I agree that the article is a bit sketchy, particularly in lumping a social worker being murdered in as sensationalism. Granted, the news media uses it for sensational purposes and hypes it up like a TV show, but they often treat war or politics in the same way (slam, blast, etc). So I don't think he should've blown off someone being killed as phony news. That said though, I agree CNN is crap. BBC is a reasonable alternative. Also, Al-Jazeera is pretty good as far as mainstream networks go. Democracy Now! is good but limited compared to the meganetworks. For more regional news:

www.narconews.com is really good for Latin America
www.fromoccupiedpalestine.org is good for Israel and Palestine
http://www.agrnews.org/ the Asheville Global Report is good
Indymedia generally has some good stuff going on as well

There's a lot, you just have to look for it.
