It's not very evident, but it's like she's interrupting something. It's ridiculous, yes, and she hated it. She also hated the fact that the feeling as though she's one extra point, just one extra vertex.
Team 10, everybody knew (or at least, everybody who cared, knew) was the perfect balance. Their workings are not really that impressive, when somebody looked at it individually, but their strategies as a team always screamed about intricate balance and surprising harmony.
She gritted her teeth, now, as her boyfriend led her towards the Gates of Konoha, with the two of them not knowing when would be the last time they'd see each other again. It could years, months, weeks, days-heck, if she's feeling particularly-no, no, no, not jealous, never jealous, because she's prettier than the other blonde chick, and she's also stronger than the chubby male-so, she'd settle for feeling particularly I-want-to-see-him soon.
But then again, if she stayed, she'd feel as though she's that leftover thing at the edge of the triangle, some excess from a not-so-accurate drawing, a segment that wasn't erased completely.
Every time the Hokage assigned the strategist to escort her, Sand's sort-of Foreign Affairs Secretary, the other blonde girl and her boyfriend's best friend would have this strange, indescribable look on their face. It's not exactly the same-but she thought that it mirrored the gaze Kankuro always gave her before she ventured away from her home country.
"Onna, you should get going." If you go out too late, there are more dangers out there.
She smirked, though it felt painful, but familiar. Shikamaru wouldn't let himself blatantly show that he cared-just like she wouldn't let herself be just another point added, as though absentmindedly, as though thoughtlessly, to the triangle already formed before she arrived at this ninja's life.
She retraced her steps, making her way back to Shikamaru, who currently wore an expression mixed with surprise, anticipation and the ever-present irritated boredom.
"Let's go back to your quarters," Temari said lowly, her breath now fanning the other's face. Her tone didn't have the tone of suggestion-it turned to be more of a command. A command that Shikamaru complained about, but allowed anyway.
She knew that she'd feel those naggings at the back of her mind again sometime, but who needs a triangle when you can form a square?
A/N: I hope I got Temari right xD Her characterization (…as well as Shikamaru) isn't really the focus of the series, so it's rather hard to get a nice… uhm, feel of her emotions. Ohwell. Hope you enjoyed :)
