New meme: Post a regret. It doesn't have to be your biggest regret. It can be something like, "I regret not doing my laundry at 6, because then I put it off and then I watched Lost and afterwards I fell asleep, then woke up with my laundry still dirty." Just a regret. But try to make it funny. Here's mine:

I regret not getting gangbanged by Spock, ( Read more... )

The future can be terrifying! But you can control it, any way you want it to go! The only way you'll be a coke-snorting, obese, irresponsible, uneducated, disgusting loser is if you let yourself, and aren't you struggling to do the exact opposite? I too once harbored immense fear of the future; even now I have worries, but I am the one at the helm. I tell myself that no,
I won't end up a loveless old woman, amnesiac and deteriorating from disease, never having published so much as a poem in her life--not unless I allow it, which is why I'm trying to hard to finish my current project.

Believe!

Even if I'm a successful doctor or pharmacist, with no kids, a college and high school education, and perfectly lean (I have all but the career already), a part of me is still going to be trash. I'm not proud of myself.

You're not your parents - you all might share some DNA but that's ALL they can take credit for. Your successes are entirely your own. Their failures are entirely theirs.

Don't denigrate yourself simply because your parents made some poorly-considered choices. I have no doubt that there are countless doctors/pharmacists/lawyers/presidents/other well-respected professionals whose parents made similarly poor choices. I'd like to think that nowadays, a child's success is not considered less commendable simply because of those from whom s/he was born.

Allow yourself some pride. Allow yourself to feel proud of your accomplishments (which are numerous). You WILL go far - you're not capable of failure.

I know. And thank you. Logically, this all makes sense. I guess... I'm just scared.
