*Yes, definitely Latin. Walter reread this twice, once mentally and again aloud, before reaching across the table for his notebook and pen that he had been using to keep track of his translations. His fingers scraped up against the rough, parchment-like pages of the book, leaving a thin but deep paper-cut on his index finger. Walter flinched instinctively, but hardly noticed the scrape.
He had also hardly noticed the small drop of blood that had dripped onto the book.*
