Overly ridiculous analysis on 4:12's speech mannerisms

Sep 14, 2010 19:15

After posting up the bonus chapter to Rhytholution!, the real-life counterpart of Tyler (my friend TJ) and I had an interesting conversation about how I've managed to emulate my entire youth group's speech patterns.

Here's the conversation we had over MSN:

Tj said (9:25 PM):
Dude you freakin'
Mastered how we all talk already.

JuN. Φ says:
LOL
Really?

Tj says:
Yuh fo sho.

JuN. Φ says:
OHSNAPS
I feel accomplished

Tj says:
You should men.
Especially me and homeboy.

JuN. Φ says:
Homeboy?

Tj says:
MATT.

JuN. Φ says:
LOL

Tj says:
Forreal.
No doubt.

JuN. Φ says:
XD
Your speech patterns aren't that hard to memorize, since it's so unique
It's easier to remember since it sticks out so much from the others

Tj says:
LOL
Matt is just,
Sarcastic all day.
All night.
Yeno what it is foo.

JuN. Φ says:
Yeah
I'm pretty good with sarcasm
Not in real-time, but when I think about it XD

Tj says:
For Pj,
When you be havin' trouble with his speech shiz
Just be like
Black man on google.

JuN. Φ says:
I figured, actually
PJ's speech patterns are like... Well, his voice kind of cracks at certain words, or at least goes up in pitch
It's not as slurry at parts like yours, but he's connecting some together
Lester has a sort of clipped speech, where he tends to cut most words short
But not all the time

Tj says:
Word homeboy.
DO MORE PEOPLE LIKE
KUYA AND MATT.
It's cool lol.

JuN. Φ says:
LOLOL
Your brother is actually very hard to emulate, speech-wise
Because I've noticed he's always simple in his sentences, yet it has a refined kind of humor

Tj says:
Homfg.
Now Matt yeah yeah!

JuN. Φ says:
Matt's speech is pretty basic. It's normal, but when he's starting to get sarcastic, he'll break his sentences up into shorter parts before emphasizing his point by drawing out the word
Like in the bonus chapter:
"Classmate. Yeah. -Totally- it." where he elongates the "to" especially
It's like... he's rolling his eyes, only he's actually saying it

Tj says:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH.
What's mine again?
Like a drunk man?

JuN. Φ says:
I wouldn't say totally drunk
Like I said, it's really unique.
But you slur a lot of your words, and you sound like you pronounce most of the words with rounded lips, even though you don't actually round your lips
When you whine especially, you elongate your "No"s and other words of protest
But sometimes, you also take on Lester's clipped speech, but "dulling" out the ends so it doesn't really sound like you're cutting the words short

Tj says:
HOMG.
Laughing so hard homeboy.
Seriously.

JuN. Φ says:
I'm totally saving this conversation XD

Tj says:
OH WAIT
HMM
Who else is there.
JESS AND ALTHEA!
THEM!

JuN. Φ says:
LOL Okay
Jessica and Althea's speech patterns actually sound really similar
But sometimes Jessica shows that "short break-up sentences" Matt has
She's starting to take on his sarcasm a bit too, recently
It's not as prominent as Matt's, but there are traces of it
Althea tends to laugh a lot while she's talking
Also, it's not really "drunk" like you or PJ, but she connects the end of her words with the beginning of her next-words
But it's still defined enough that you can discern the pause between words

Tj says:
WORD.
'Nuff said.

JuN. Φ says:
OH
And for Althea, during any words that end in an "oh" sound, like "know" she can sometimes elongate them so it sounds like "ohhhhwuh", with the "wuh" sound being quick to fade
So if she says "I know!" it can sometimes come out like "I knowwwuh!"
With, like I said, the "wuh" ending being very brief and light

Tj says:
OH OH OH OH OH OH I SEE.
Like 'dem hella white girls.

JuN. Φ says:
LOL I guess it's because she lives in [INSERT TOWN HERE]
I'm not sure if they have many Asians there
But I think it's because of that and because she watches a lot of media resources
And the media barely has any Asians

Tj says:
TRUE TRUE TRUE.
OH OH OH
HOW ABOUT
UHHHMM
KUYA TOFFEEE!

JuN. Φ says:
Hmm...
Toffee's speech is pretty much shortened but dulled at the end
Also, he sometimes tends to cut off the beginnings of some words, while for those he's trying to emphasize, he's elongating the beginnings
Example 1: "Hey"
Sometimes he can say it like "'ey", unconsciously, sometimes he says it normally
Example 2: "What!?"
When he's joking around sometimes he goes "Whhhhat!?", exaggerating the "wh" sound
Other times he just uses the universal "Whaaaaa!?"
Other times still he just says "What!?" with a tiny bit of the 't' sound cut off, but just barely

Tj says:
OHMAN.
I GOTCHA.

JuN. Φ says:
Anyone else?
If I think of any more for the ones I already mentioned, I'll come back to them

Tj says:
OOOOOOH
ATE JEN AND ATE PAULINE

JuN. Φ says:
Okay, hold on for a second
Okay, so Ate Pauline's speech patterns are defined because of her accent
It's very strong when she speaks Tagalog, but it blends in nicely with her English that it's veiled almost
Some words can be drawn out, but not to yours, PJ's or Althea's extent
It's very brief
As for Ate Jen, it's pretty normal, though her vocal pitch tends to oscillate (look it up, since I'm sure you don't know what it means)
She also tends to have the "wuh" ending too

Tj says:
SGJKLSDGJKLHSDLKG
SO GOOD.

And then he had to go to sleep 'cus he had school tomorrow.

It was pretty interesting, to say the least. I did my best to explain how they talked in text and little habits and verbal ticks they had. At least TJ got a kick out of it.

just for fun, youth group, random analysis
