A blade in hand, he stood as the sole defender of a large tree. The branches reached up until the heavens, though the edges drooped. The tree was dying, and the world it stood for along with it. Waves upon waves of enemies would come, and he would defeat them all. All those who would dare threaten his charge, the tree that contained the world.
The woman inside of it floated down, wrapping her arms around his shoulders protectively. The Goddess floated behind him, her eyes closed, head resting on his shoulder. ”My Seraph,” She spoke quietly. ”Protect me…” He continued with her wishes, protecting her from everything. He grew hardened to the needs of basic human life- over time, he stopped getting hungry. The need to sleep left him. He no longer thought of such basic things, sitting under the tree and waiting for the next threat, so as to eliminate it.
The stars rose above his head, the man resting against the tree, sword in hands as he waited, counting them. The Goddess sat by him, her brown hair framing her face.
”You will always protect me, won’t you?” There was something on her chest, a glowing orb right below the collarbone that caught him eye- it matched the one on his left hand. She spoke again. ”No matter what, you will protect me?” She was crying.
Why was she crying? He reached out to take his love’s hand, dropping the sword as he did so, and nodded.
”Kill me.” She whispered the words. He was unable to deny a direct order from his goddess. No matter his will, he had to obey. She was run through with his blade, despite the silent protests. She fell down in death, a small smile gracing her beautiful features.
He fell to his knees, holding the fallen Goddess in his arms. The tree went unguarded. Her wishes were gone. She was gone. There was nothing. Nothing but a small light in the distance. Nodding a silent prayer, he set the Goddess down at the foot of the tree she had loved so dearly, picking up his sword and heading towards the small light. He would live on. Devoid of humanity, he needed to find a new purpose. He would become someone else’s Seraph. A soft blue colour flashed out from his back as he set out an a new journey- one of his own choosing.
