Well,

For a long time I have been very impressed by the list of programs offered at RRC. I think a lot of people balk at trades, but I can definitely understand the appeal of knowing a skilled trade. How cool would it be to be a chef, or be a carpenter and build your own house!

No. No you're not.

You have a steady job, you're not in school anymore (right?), and your Dad is a jerk.

J was saying that as long as you're renting for under 10 years, it's cheaper than owning a house. Or something like that...

We'll look through our things and see if we've got anything you need... I know we have a nacho platter & salsa dish set you can have. :D

There's so much more to moving out than just financial issues. From that last post, you really need some time apart from your family; or, at least, it should be your choice how much time you spend with them and when. Buying a house is ridiculous right now in Winnipeg, unfortunately. If you want the financial benefits of owning a house without actually owning one, then take whatever you would have put for a down payment on a house and just invest it.

Luckily for me, the money I have saved up for a down payment is already invested in GICs.

I agree that it is more than the financial issues as well. I want to live closer to work, and I want my own place. Our little hovel in Japan was not much to look at and privacy was scarce, but I did enjoy the independence I had there.
