I have 5.5 years of University education. I have a Bachelor's degreee in Science, with specialization in Microbiology, Zoology, and Chemistry. I took some of the toughest courses the university has to offer, Organic chemistry, and Biochemistry I and II. Through it all I maintained a 4.2 GPA

That unfortunately seems to be the case these days with many BA holders regardless of their field.

Keep in mind, though, you're in Winnipeg. Winnipeg needs few professionals other than maybe nurses, doctors and criminal enforcement/justice officers.

If you were in Vancouver or Toronto, or maybe even Calgary, the story might be different.
