Summary: they're safe.

1943

A dark-haired boy laid in the dark, listening to the sound of his own breathing bouncing off the cold, lifeless walls that surrounded him. He could hear the faint sounds of bombs making contact with the ground and if he listened hard enough, he could even hear the screams that followed. It was a disturbing thought, thinking of all the people who were dying out there while he stayed safe in an underground bunker. He snuggled deeper under the thin piece of cloth that was draped over him in place of a blanket. Taking in a deep breath, he counted as he exhaled.

one, two, three, four…

The boy felt his mattress sink into the bed frame as his roommate slid shyly onto his bed. The younger boy gave a soft sniff and the older of the two immediately wrapped his blanket around the both of them. Neither said anything, both simply lied side by side, staring into the darkness. But underneath the blanket, their hands were clamped together, fingers laced in comfort. And that was all they needed.

2010

Jinki lies awake listening to the sound of his band mates’ soft snores and the rumbling of thunder in the distance. That is when Kibum decides to slide under Jinki’s comforter, his fingertips pressing lightly against the older boy’s side, just for a brief moment. Jinki’s hand finds Kibum’s under the bed and he holds on tightly - an unspoken promise to never let go. It all feels too familiar to them, like it’s happened before. And as a single streak of lightning lights up their room, they both know.

They’re safe.

A/N: IMPORTANT! As you guys might (or might not) know, SHINee is coming to Singapore for Kpop Night, and my mother says she'll only allow me to go if I do well in school, so I might be going on a semi-hiatus (or maybe even a full hiatus) until my end-of-years are over. I will miss writing D8 (and my readers, no matter how few there are)
