This is my favourite love film.
Theres lots of love stories inside this film.
Friendship between two very differnet girls - Nana and Nana-hachi.
The hint hint-wink wink friendship between Shin and Nobu
and ofcourse the love between Nana and Ren.
Never choose Pride over love.
I think thats a very valuable lesson for everyone.
Ren and Nana used to be in a relationship and also part of the band 'the Black Stones' along with Nobu and the bauld drummer.
Nana had hopes and dreams of becoming a rockstar and her band being big.
she had everything she wanted. a shared flat with her boyfirend and small gigs.
then oneday Ren tells her hes been recruited for a big band -Trapnest and he's leaving.
Nana's heart breaks. Ren wants her to go with him, but Nana doesnt want to give up her dream. she doesnt want to be the wife at home with nothing.
she wants to make it too.
she doesnt want to give up everything.
Just as Ren and Nana are about to leave their friends after asying goodbyes, Nana jumps from the train crying.
She doesnt want to leave and she'll sacrifice love for her dreams.
As Rens train dissapears Nana must learn to live life on her own.
Shes going to start again, and so she moves to Tokyo herself to make it big.
On the train she meets a young girl whos completely differnet to her in everyway. Nana-Hachi.
The girls share the same name and believe its fate that they met as they then keep bumping into eachother.
The two girls build themselves a friendship and learn to survive tokyo together.
Nana tells Hachi that shes a vocalist and is going to advertise for new band members. Hachi falls inlove with Nana's voice and her dream and decides to back her all the way. Hachi left her family and friends and came to Tokyo to move in with her boyfriend who doesnt seem to have much time or care for her.
When Nana advertises for band members, Nobu turns up at her door and she rolls her eyes. Then they meet Shin..
" Promise me you'll be better than Ren" she says.
The story is narrated by Hachi about her friend, but we also see plenty of flash backs to Nana's past with Ren.
They had a beautiful love story, but Nana wont admit to missing him.
The girls ends up having to learn to lean on eachother throughout their troubles and survival in Tokyo.
" Hachi!! this is your fight!, your man!. fight for your man!!" Nana screams..knowing the experiance herself all too well.
Oneday Hachi wins 2 Trapnest consert tickets as shes a big fan and asks Nana to go with her.
Nana says no and Hachi begs her.
With no idea of why, Hachi decides to piece together Nana's hidden love story.

Though i havent read it.. i respect it beucase i love the movie.
i have not yet seen Nana 2 though i really wish too.
I'm upset that Ryuhei didnt return as Ren.
New actors play Ren, Hachi and Shin ( Ken'ichi replaced with Hongo Kanata - little Sho moonchild)
So i have mixed emotions about watching it.
