I think it's easier for the parent that does the kid-prep stuff more often. Most of the week my sister is the one that takes the kids (she has two, ages 4 and 2) to Grandma's so she has the routine down pat. My brother-in-law, who only does that once or twice a week, knows the routine but it takes him significantly longer and he sometimes forgets things so we've just made it a habit to have extra mittens, sneakers, etc. here for them.
I figure he's doing better than Laurel's bio-dad, who not only referred to taking care of her as babysitting (it's not babysitting when it's your own kid, derp), he forgot to take take the diaper bag every time he left the house with her on his own. Once he even removed the diaper bag from the car after I put it in to make it easier for him. (My understanding of this is that he liked to make things difficult so he could complain about them.)
