Basically it said that Shinn represents the irrational youth of today, and that younger audiences could not appreciate him because he was a reflection of ourselves.

This reminds a lot to Metal Gear Solid 2's Raiden. The poor dude was meant to be a realisitc character in comparison to Solid Snake and the fanbase hated him for being weak.
