Seeing the fall of the Berlin wall on the news when I was 10 was probably the first time I became aware of the "outside world". the memory feels like a pretty significant thing for me. I lived in Germany for a year, got to see Berlin and brought back a piece of the wall for my mama.
And yes, German men are hot, especially those accents.
