Open Discussion Post: Celebrate Your Favorite Character

Well, LJ is full of posting fail lately, but I thought it might be fun to start our open discussion posts anyway, this time with a very simple question:

Who's your favorite character in Hakuouki, and why? (Just try to pick one if you can!)

No prizes for guessing I'm going to say our favourite tsundere demon vice-commander! So many reasons why I love him, but the simple version is that I love and admire his sense of duty and honour, the way he holds to it even when he knows the cause is lost and no matter what pain it causes him, and his skill and courage in doing so. He's stunningly beautiful too, not unusual in Hakuouki I know, but he was the one who edged ahead for me because I never could resist the gorgeous, severe, stoic types who carry the weight of their responsibilities without flinching, even when they are close to breaking. I even find that grumpy scowl endearing!

Hijikata, both anime and real life versions, is also one of the main reasons I'm so utterly enchanted and obsessed by all things Japanese these days! (Along with GACKT!)

All that said, right behind him for me are Saitou and Okita and Harada too and I have a major soft spot for Kondou!

My favorite Character is Souji Okita. Okita usually always my favorite character in any anime with the Shinsengumi, (except Kaze Hikaru.. Saitou is my favorite character)

I love Okita because he's a interesting character and he's different from the other versions of Okita. I love how Souji is a merciless swordman one minute then a playful and goofy person the next. I like his yandere-ness too.
I also like his flaws and the development of his character. He's Manly too. And sexy.

Next would saitou. then Hijikata.

My favorite is Saitou although I did first notice Hijikata in the artwork. But once I started looking at the art and then the anime, I fell hard for Saitou. I always go for the quiet, loyal, strong and honorable types. He is extremely capable but he never brags, that just makes me melt. Of course he's ridiculously pretty in the Hakuouki incarnation isn't he? ^_^

Exactly. Saitou won't let you down in a fight, he will protect his comrades to the end. You know you're safe if Saitou is there. ♥

Long hair gets me every time, the white scarf wrapped around his neck is so elegant. Just like Saitou!

I've only ever seen the anime, so I can't comment on the games.
I actually went through phases of lurve for Hijikata, then Souji, then Saitou, then a looong Harada phase, then back to Souji, cuz he's just SO, but believe it or not I ended up with some strong love for Yamazaki Susumu!
I didn't understand it at first, cuz I usually end up adoring long-haired, tall, taciturn ones (Hijikata), or the sensitive/protective types (omg HARADA!) or the utterly charming ones (Like Souji. obviously. TWICE.Reasons? Hmm. There was something about that ninja. He pops up out of nowhere (sneakiness has always made me interested), he never looks for credit, aside from the pretty purple his eyes seem to have a more Asian appearance than the other characters (and that just draws me right on in), he's the medic which makes him a go-to guy, he's devoted to all things Shinsengumi, he's mysterious, and he's clearly very brave ( ... )
