Hayate absently walked along the bank of a sparkling clear river, kicking a stone into the water before pushing his hands deeper into the pockets of his blue jeans. Leafunia surrounded him on every side and eased his mood out of the dark brooding state he'd been in since the previous night. Rolling up the long sleeves of his soft grey shirt, he

"Ahh," he sighed blissfully after a long, cold draught with golden head tipped back, grinning at Hayate. "I believe the kids packed themselves sandwiches--but from I figured we would need something a little more substantial, especially considering the way they're running around."
After a bit of a search, he produced two cans of cream of mushroom soup from his own bundles, holding them up triumphantly. Following that came pot, ladle and a small metal grill with legs to heat the soup over the fire with. Although Kei was not a camping guru in the least, one could never accuse him of being unprepared for anything.

"You're going to cook?" he asked blandly. Hayate couldn't quite resist adding, "Real food ( ... )

He set the pot on the grille and opened the two cans of soup, pouring them one after the other into the container. Carefully setting aside the cans to wash in the river later, he stirred the soup gently with the ladle and made sure it was centered over the flames, before standing and seeing Hayate inspecting the campsite.
The Knight of Light had to smirk at the question about the tents; somebody had to notice sooner or later. And really, who would be surprised that he had been plotting something, yet again?
"I think Sasame and Takako may be joining us, tonight," he replied, just as casually, but his eyes were sharp under flaxen waves. "I trust you won't mind, Hayate?"

Still, it looked much better, he thought with a hint of pride and satisfaction.
At the mention of Takako and Sasame, Hayate went completely still. Tensing all over and feelig his hands gripping his jeans hard enough to rip the fabric, he spoke quietly with just the right casual note. His expression remained neutral and cool. What did Kei expect him to do, toss flowers around and rejoice? "I'm sure the kids will be thrilled to see them."
Grabbing up an outdoor coffee/tea pot someone had thought to bring along, Hayate started out of the camp. "I'll go get water to boil for tea."

"As a matter of fact, they were," Kei responded, keeping up the pretense of nonchalance as he bent to stir the soup. Then, in a voice that was soft but carrying as Hayate turned to leave, "I am not asking you to forgive him right now, Hayate... But it will not solve anything if you attempt to run away from the issue."

When Kei came over to invade his personal bubble, Hayate glared at him but didn't inch away. He was fairly certain Kei was going to make a point, one way or another. Listening and downing the rest of his soda fast enough to fill fizz burning down the back of his throat, Hayate crushed the can and tossed it in the general direction of the small trash bag they'd brought along. "I know, Kei. Sasame deserted the Knighthood." He left all of us behind and everything he vowed. Every last thing.
Taking a slow breath, he met Kei's gaze, "When the time comes, we'll all work together. My vows and duties as a Leafe Knight will not be forgotten."
