Hooray! At last, someone has addressed the fact that Arthur was RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR, and also not deaf. I really liked this look into Arthur's thoughts and how he knows (i'm such a sucker for the Arthur knows approach), especially this bit...

He tried to lock eyes with Merlin but dropped them straight away. He felt that he should be embarrassed for the moisture in the boys eyes, instead he just felt his own shame at seeing the honesty of those emotions. Merlin was never ashamed, always honest and truthful and wore his emotions like a badge of honour.

That's such an apt description of them both - Merlin being so open and Arthur not, but at the same time you feel like perhaps he wishes he could be.

And I loved the little moment at the end with Arthur and Gaius, and Gaius asking Arthur to take care of Merlin - I could easily imagine that as canon *looks pointedly at Merlin writers* And then that perfect last line, that Arthur can't pretend not to care anymore.

I'm looking forward to this three part fic as well - is that a Merlin

I know that feeling. Someone tried to lend me a new novel today and I think I just stared at the cover for a while, having a "wait, where's Merlin and Arthur?" moment :D The show has completely taken over my reading and writing habits, it seems!
