Today will be my first day at work with no pumping. It was weird to get up this morning and not have to remember to grab the pump and Keira's bottles for the day. It was just Keira's blanket for the daycare and my lunch. That's it. Weird and wonderful, that's what I'm calling it.
The Transition
Keira had a bit of a rough time with the transition over the weekend. Since I'm not pumping, it also means no nursing for her naps, either. We're down to one nursing session in the morning and two in the evening. Poor thing, she was so very confused and upset on Saturday when we went upstairs for her nap and I wouldn't nurse her. She cried and cried, and refused both the sippy cup of water and the bottle of milk I had on hand. But in the end she calmed down and let me sing her to sleep while I held her.
Later in the day, she got tired again in spite of a two-hour nap, so this time Mike took her upstairs for her nap. I heard her cry a couple times, but he eventually got her to sleep and all was well. This time, he said she did drink her bottle, so that's good.
Sunday went much more smoothly. I took Keira upstairs when she started acting tired, she laid down, got a little anxious, and then immediately calmed down when I showed her the bottle. It took a little while to get her settled, but after a short drink, some flipping and flopping, and then a longer drink, she turned over a couple of times and fell fast asleep. So yay for Keira!
Today I told her teachers to go ahead and use up the frozen milk at a 1:5 ratio of breastmilk:whole milk, and then once it's used up they can just give her whole milk, water, or juice. I also need to remember to get a couple more sippy cups for her since it's really time for her to transition off of the bottles as well. It's so funny, it seemed like it was taking forever to get to this point, and now it feels like it's almost happening too fast. Almost.
Other stuff from the weekend:
1) I spent my day off getting fillings. It was actually very quick and mostly painless. I don't know what the dentist did, but she either numbed my mouth without using a needle or she was so good I never felt it. Either way, it was much less traumatic than the last filling I got when I was a teenager. She worked fast, too. I was in and out of the dentist's office in less than an hour. Of course, now my teeth are super sensitive, which is a pain, but eh, I'll live.
2) Angie's birthday was on Friday. We celebrated at her parent's place out in Placentia, and it was really a nice evening. Keira had a blast playing with her cousins and just running around the house. The big secret of the evening was that a whole bunch of us (family and friends both) chipped in for a new laptop. It was an amazingly well kept secret.
3) We looked at some more houses on Sunday. We saw one that we might like even better than the one we saw last weekend. The only negatives to it are 1) the pool, since that means we'd have to take care of it and 2) We'd really want an island put in for the kitchen... but at least there is space for that island. But aside from that, the yard is a bit bigger, the layout of the living room/kitchen/dining room is nice and open, and the Master bedroom is huge (they took out the wall between the two front rooms to create one gigantic room). So we'll see. First we need to nail down the financing on this thing, which means getting in touch with Mike's grandma again.
4) I cooked and baked this weekend! On Saturday I made Taco Soup from a recipe I saw about a month ago. It turned out really nice. Very simple, hearty, and spicy. Yesterday I made banana bread and pear bread. Keira is addicted to the banana bread. It was *so* nice to be able to get back into the kitchen and make things. With all the cooking we did over the weekend and late last week, that means we have leftovers for meals for three nights this week. That does not suck.
This week will be a regular week for me, though I will have to leave a little early today. I forgot to put new checks in my checkbook, and I need to pay Keira's tuition today. D'oh! Silly mistake. So now I get to run home, grab the new pack of checks, and then hightail it to the daycare. I so wish this place had an autopay option. Ah well, I will live.
