unless you believe that whole "pope joan" thing. fantastic historical fiction.
and we need to play! i am hooooome again. your books i borrowed miss you. and i do too, but moreso.
funny thing about the bible. . .you can quote anything you want from it. because depending on the translation, unicorns are present in the text seven times. and we all know jesus ascended to heaven on a unicorn.
Can you clarify your use of the word. This stance isn't anything new...its a core belief of the Catholic Church...that has been in place for thousands of years...so...every Pope has said that...

petulant in that Il Papa saw fit to dig up an old paper he'd done, spruced it up a bit, and made it an official Papal...thingie. When, in so far as I learned it at UIW, Vatican II happened in order to sort of "soften" Catholic doctrines, making things less stringent and giving the church a more open stance on things in general.
Pope Benedict seems to be using his time as Pope to stress the Catholic Identity. My understanding, being a Catholic and reading (a translated version of) the Motu Proprio, is that he is trying to remind us of our identity and responsiblilty as Catholics and one way he is doing that is by publishing this text and by reaffirming the traditional Catholic teaching that the Roman Catholic Church is the one true chruch founded by JC. In my personal experience, I have not read documentation saying that all others are pretenders. I suppose it is implied, but I don't think the Pope wrote his text for you to change your mind. I think its so that I can more fully understand and be reminded of my choice of faith. I would love to talk to you more about this if you want. So often I think my faith gets a bad rap because people misunderstand, but when talking to a knowledgable Catholic, people tend to see we aren't as hard as people think.
